Cool Why do some Yaris sedans have a tach?

When I purchased the S sedan, and their were four left none of them had a tach, and this was in the ending of 2006 mine is a 2007. But as I drive I noticed some models with tachs, is it possible to make an upgrade to have a tach, like the stock one? If so please give me some tips on the subject.

That I dont understand, because I brought the S, but then again out here in PR certain vehicles dont come with special features, example one the Yaris sedan does not come with a bodykit but when you receive or look at the options it comes with the package, and I must say the dealer also heard my mouth about this. But is a upgrade possible?

I think yaris hilton is right. The tach pertains to the power package not the trim level. You can purchase a base model yaris that is a S. Has no power anything and downgraded interior but still have the S kit. Or you can buy a fully loaded yaris with upgraded seats radio and power everything that dosnt come with a S kit which is what I have. Its automatic but I have a tachometer go figure.

They should have just made the tach standard on all S models and or all stick shift models. Makes logical sense but what it all comes down to is dollars and cents. Anything that can cut production costs.

Cheapest way would be to add a aftermarket tach.

Sedan clusters with tach seem to be readily available and relatively cheap on eBay. The link below is one for $50. The only issue with swapping the cluster is that your mileage will change to that of the replacement cluster. Your local dealer or a local speedometer repair shop may have the equipment to reprogram the new cluster with your current mileage.

I don't know about other markets, but in the US, all manual transmission sedans have tachs as well as all power package equipped models.

This is a weird quirk of the Yaris.

I have an 08 hatch with a stick. No power package and NO TACH.

This is probably my number 1 gripe with the car. I think if it's a manual, it should have a tach. End of story.

Yes I can drive the car just fine without it. I just think it's a basic guage, and it's not like it's a luxury or something.

The car has that worthless gimmick Tire Pressure Monitoring System which is complete and total bullsh!t.

If cost is the issue, take out TPMS and give me my tach.

The tpms is only in the Yaris because it's a government requirement as of all 2008 models. Notice it wasn't in the '07's.

I agree with you though, a tach should be in all models as well as a proper temperature gauge. I also wish the Yaris had a traditional analog gas gauge which gives a more precise estimate.

Is it a Gov. requirement? Did not know that. Makes sense though that the gov. would do something that assinine.

And you're absolutely right about the proper temp. and gas gauges too.

In other words this sucks. I still have a lot of love for my baby, she is good without a tach, I guess. But I still would like one for mine. And that is strange that manual trans, dont come with a tach. I've had many cars in my time and all had a tach, and all were AT trans. Well the search continues....

I don't think that is 100% correct. It wasn't based on transmission. Only on the power package.

Yep, the asinine TPMS system is a US government requirement. Those transmitters have nonreplaceable batteries that will die in a few years, too.

My '07 has a tach and no power package. And every MT sedan I've seen has it.
The MT liftback, on the other hand, doesn't.

Yeah the battery thing I knew about.

So ridiculous. TPMS adds significant cost, adds complexity, and is designed to fail after a few years.

Sounds like something only the government and car companies would think is a good idea. Sure doesn't serve the consumer, in fact it scams them.

Those auto company lobbyist must have lined a lot of pockets to get this shit to be made manditory.
