K&N Drop in - Toyota Yaris Forums

Hi ,
Im new to the forum. I recently purchased a 08 Yaris Base/4D SDN(Love it). I was thinking about purchasing a K&N drop in filter. However, I was wondering if anyone had experienced a loss in MPG? Or a gain? Thanks in advance!

I had it. No noticeable change in MPG.

It doesn't affect MPG at all as the 1.5L engine never seems to have a problem breathing. However, it saves a lot of resources as it's reusable, and it will save you money in the long run.

i recently purchased K&N drop in filter...didnt really made any differences in mpg wise, but for throttle responses, hp and torque were slightly noticeable, in the long run it helps to save lots of money

There are also other reputable (and less expensive) filters than K&N.

I've used a K&N and a Simota (I have a Simota now) and didn't notice a difference between the two, besides the pricetag.

I've experienced exactly what Walt said; a little peppier, but no MPG change.

That s the main reason I bought one......it saves $$ from having to replace the paper oner every year (I live in a dusty area). Well worth it in that respect, but no real gain in performance or fuel economy.

I don't understand your statement. We've already established that the Yaris' engine doesn't benefit much, if anything, from a drop in filter as the oxygen requirement is easily met with the stock setup. Why would you recommend a much more expensive and more involved setup like an SRI or a CAI when we already know they offer no further benefit to any measurable metric in question?

Besides, a reusable filter saves resources in the long run while an SRI or CAI requires more resources.

It saves the waste for the environment and that’s great! But I found some information that made me think of not getting it.

well, if you established that the filter - drop in or otherwise, doesn't provide any gain, the only reason to get one at all will be for looks/feel, as you can just take the filter off of both the k&n and an SRI or CAI to wash, however the SRI/CAI makes a noticeable sound difference, and looks better (IMO) where I don't believe the drop in does.
