Question What happened?!

Can someone help me out? I was driving behind someone doing 10 mph under the speed limit, so when i went to pass him, i stepped on the gas, and the car downshifted like normal, then the check engine light started flashing at me and it cut power to the engine only allowing me to do 40 mph, it kind of went into like a limp-home mode. So i pulled over and popped the hood. The coolant level is normal, the oil level is normal and i have a full tank of gas. I wait 5 minutes and start the car back up and everything is normal again. What just happened?

Connect a code reader (or go someplace that will do so for you). Even If the CEL is not still on, there should a be a stored code that will give a better idea as to what happened.

Flashing CEL usually means combustion problem. I'm guessing misfire.

Check your sparkplugs.
