First tank!
First tank with my new 2011 3DR LB:
-621.5 KM travelled -37.223 L put in at pump -Fuel economy 5.99L/100 km (39.5 mpg for our American friends) Intangibles: -lightly driven -60% city/40% highway (work commute is largely stop and go) -no significant elevation changes -temperature from mid 70s to 80s -a/c use negligible -try to engage DFCO whenever possible Now I’ve read that prior to 3000km the engine undergoes a break-in period in which fuel economy is lessened, if true I will be more than happy with the little guy. |

Very nice for a first tank! What kind of tire pressure are you running, just curious?
And auto or 5 speed? |

Very nice. Best I ever got was 6.15 one time. I'm usually in the mid 7's.

my first two tanks were 41.5MPG (not sure the lpkm) though I got mine with 18k miles on it so you are really doing good.

Sorry for the delay in reply... current tire pressure is factory (I was waiting to get a consistent reading before I started playing around with it) and it's a 5 speed with TRD quickshifter. I only mention the quickshifter as I find I am able to consistently keep it in DFCO while coming to a stop.

*Brief update*
I've now tracked my first seven tanks which have taken me from the 39KM on the odometer to the roughly 4500 there are now. I've averaged 5.875 L/100KM 40.082 MPG (US) 48.137 MPG (Imperial) These are well above the EPA estimates especially considering my commute continues to be stop and go and primarily "city" mileage. I find that the car is not especially fond of having 4-5 adults in the car and it significantly reduces fuel economy (we're all <200 pounds). My only real complaint about the car to this point is that the gauge cluster rattles every now and then... anyone else experience this? (Now fully tinted!) |

Wow, sparkling numbers for an engine that's not broken in yet!.
I could see you getting almost 60MPG (CAN) in the future on "flat" routes. Quote:

Cleveland, my first tank, on a new 2011 yaris rs with 8 klicks on it.
-428.2KM travelled 266.07 miles -32.25L put in at pump 7.09 CAN gallons 8.51 US gallons - MPG 37.52CAN /31.26 US Intangibles: -lightly driven -50% city/50% highway (work commute is light traffic) -no significant elevation changes -temperature in mid 70s to 60s -a/c use most of the time I am pretty disappointed. This kind of MPG would have been the worse I got in the 2005 Echo RS. Hoping for some major improvement when the engine loosens up! Quote:

I bought my 2007 sedan in January before the texas heat hit. I was getting about 39 mpg. With the three months of 100 and stupid temps, I have to run my AC. I noticed a significant drop in milage, to about 33 mpg. Anyone else have the same situation? Can I look forward to better milage again in the fall and winter? I really love this little car. I've owned a Tercell, Camry, and Corolla, and by far, this one is my favorite.

Thanks for the tip on the 0w20 , I see that it's 48$ at the local place. I wonder if the payback is worth it on the incresaed MPG. Also if it reduces wear on the engine over the long run???
Really disappointed in the initial MPG so I took a drive Sat to loosen up the engine a bit and to see where the MPG would go with strictly highway driving. 2nd tank 516.6KM travelled -31.56 L put in at pump 6.94 Can Gallons/8.33 US Gallons -MPG 46.25 CAN/ 38.54 USIntangibles: -moderately driven -2% city/98% highway -mountainous(Coquihalla highway) -temperature from mid 70s -a/c most of the time 3rd tank 449.5 KM travelled -24.86 L put in at pump 5.47 Can Gallons/6.56 US Gallons -MPG 51.15 CAN 42.57 USIntangibles: -lightly driven -100% highway -mountainous( but going down more) elevation changes -temperature from mid 70s -a/c .half the time 4th tank 426.7 KM travelled -32.86 L put in at pump 7.23Can Gallons/8.67US Gallons -MPG 36.67CAN 30.53USIntangibles: -lightly driven -100% city -mostly flat-temperature from mid 70s -a/c .half the time The MPG is getting much closer to what I saw with the Echo. Thank good ness. I guess after about 5000 miles it'll be pretty much the best it'll get... I notice a lot of wind noise coming at 120KPH from the front window area. It cuts down a lot when reducing to 100KPH. Wind resistance must be much higher. Last edited by digitalrain; 09-25-2011 at 11:51 PM. |
