Block Heater
What is involved in adding a Toyota block heater to a Yaris? I ask because I drive only 6 miles to work and in the winter a large percentage of that is with a less than warmed up engine. Im thinking maybe the mileage will be better. I got ~30 mpg last winter.
Thanks! |

my question is with such a short commute, is it worth the extra cost for the block heater and the hour to two hours of running it?
I dabbled with the idea years ago but I am usually on my way to work about 30 minutes after I wake up in the morning. it's just enough time to take a shower, get dressed, and out I go. I wouldn't think it would be that invoved and you could possibly use a universal one. there are also the type that circulate the coolant and the type that just sticks on. I have heard the one that circulates coolant is better though I really am not speaking from experience. good luck |

The genuine Toyota one (00113-00902) is a bit of a pain to install. It installs in place of the freeze out plug on the rear left side of the block.
I have heard good things about the oil pan heaters, specifically the Proheat one. And, they are trivial to install: http://www.engineheaters.com/

But you need a flat oil pan to install them, which the Yaris doesnt have.

The smallest mofel (154) is only 2.5" x 4". I would think that there's enough of a flat spot to fit that.
