One of these days, there will be a pic of the new 500 and the old original 500. I remember the original, and, like the Mini, it was WAY smaller than the new one...

Hey guys ,
No mods for this one except the hids for both the headlights n foglight soon . As far as the Italian car with an American engine n build in Mexico ... It's all about to bring the price down ... But the engine design is Italian design and still the same with the european models . Can't wait for my abarth to come Soon ... That's all I can say :) |

Both older cars seem extremely small when approached. But once you get inside its a while nother story. I'm 6' 1" and I fit in both easily. I imported a right hand drive 1972 Leyland Mini (in color "Tobacco Road") from Auckland New Zealand about 12 years ago. In the same container was a red fiat 500 imported in by the same company that imported in mine. I really liked it as well, but I couldn't get over how it's engine was half the size of my already small 1000cc engine in my mini.
Unfortunately, in a bone-head move I can only chalk up to youth ignorance and extreme need to pay the rent, I sold my mini for less then it cost me just a year after going through the nightmare of getting it imported into the US and titled and I really regret it. Its been my favorite car to drive I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few. The thing drove like it weighed as much as a go-kart and really held the road. The "rubber cone" suspension was just a kick to drive. If I ever have the means to buy another old mini someday I will do what it takes to get one.

Thanks, BluYrs, all the proof I need. The original was indeed very small, and typical of most European cars of the era. Compared to my 850 Morris Minor, I never could understand how one could get 4 people into a 500, almost like a college phone booth challenge...

i drove a base 500 last month
was a nice car, but small and tall and im spoiled with blitz power in the yaris.... so in summary, i wasnt super impressed (and i was getting crazy glare from the beige steering column plastic so i couldnt read the gauges)

Been driving my black 500 sport for a week ... I need a little more power indeed. Compare to my yaris with all the mods it is slower ...but hey it is a stock car with a smaller engine ... But the abarth is another story .
I guess stock to stock , the fiat is a better build quality . I dunno how much the brand new yaris 2 door cost right now , but the fiat with a leather seats , Abs brakes, 8 airbags, sunroof , disc brakes all around and a set of 16" rims for around $19K is hard to beat ... I'm actualy torn between either keep the yaris and add the supercharger for around 135 hp or sell it, loose some $$ n get the abarth for 170hp .... Decision decision decision |

$19K for a Fiat 500?!!! I paid right around $12K for my Yaris with auto and power package... and I think that's all it was worth. I recently bought my new Camry LE with leather for way less than $19K. Yes, I know it's apples and oranges, but I just can't rationalize spending that much cash on a Fiat.

Who here remembers the italian job? is it just me or does that lil fiat 500 with an LSD and turbo seem like it would make one hell of an autoXer// canyon carver.. I wonder if there would be a market for a microcar like that... *Garm, setting the stage for you ;)
