Anyone here own classic VW Bugs, bus or type 3's? or have had one before.
School me on them considering getting one for a project car. |

I had a 62, pretty beat up appearance wise but ran great.
If you've never done a project car before, bugs are great. If you have, a bug will be a breeze. DO IT. Tons of parts, decent prices for said parts. Minimal tools required. You can drop the motor with a jack and milk crate. Try to find something with good floors, engine bay and hood/actually trunk. Those are the worst fixes. |

I had a 69, loved it. they're fun to drive, easy to work on too. like Sam said, try not to get one with rust on the floorboards or the heater channels (heater channels are on each side of the car directly below the doors) and you're good!

The right floor pan is solid, no rust.I checked the undercarriage, it's good. But I might separate the body from the floor and to check. I don't want rust to build.I plan on coating everything that might rust with Pro 15 ![]() Heater channels is rust free. No rust anywhere else really.Started gutting and now trying to unstuck the rear axle nut and get the breaks lose so the wheels spins. I love it.These cars have a lot or personality.hihihi lol. I read that they can be addictive.I'm already thinking of buying another one that runs at a bargain price. lol |

IMHO, Larryn20 has the right idea, just make it into a duner. That's what I did to mine, and it was a blast. A stock VW? Sorry, talk to someone who likes watching paint dry...

I'm more into watercooled Volkswagens but my brother had a nice Type 3 that he was restoring (ended up selling it). Check out Samba for great info on old aircooled VWs.
