Adding a "dead pedal", panel trim question
I'm making and installing a rubber "dead-pedal" in the drivers footwell (pix to follow) and in the process of getting up in there, I notice the trim panel is stuck on what looks like a bolt (red, like the paint on my car) , but no nut or retainer on it at all.
Same thing on the passenger's side. This is at the topmost portion of the carpeting, as it goes up the firewall, against the outermost portion of the car (what would be the front fender, but the inside of it) Curious if something was overlooked hardware-wise in the assembly of my car, or if thats the norm. Hopefully someone's got a moment to look up there with a flashlight on their own Yaris and see if there's is the same? Thanks in advance! |

That's normal. The plastic is molded with to allow it to slip over the threads.

You may have to trim down the foam block where the existing dead pedal is. When I wear boots with a firm sole, I have a hard time getting the clutch all the way down because the dead pedal is so close to the clutch pedal.

UPDATE! project done
OK, so I've added my "dead pedal" mostly since I tend to rest my left foot right there and the carpet is already showing wear and tear at just under 4,000 miles.
I used a piece of rubber from the floor of a golf cart...its thick, about 3/16" and very tough stuff. I backed it up with a piece of alum on the backside of the carpet, for rigidity and to keep the fasteners from working loose over time like washers may do. I countersunk the holes a bit, so the fasteners would be flush. I used aluminum (saving weight ) "post fasteners" from Lowes. The "unseen" side... Voila! All done... How'd I do? |
