Just passed 80K

I just passed 80K in my 2008 Polar White Yaris. I know the repair manual says 100K for plugs and possibly a transmission (auto) / coolant flush , but is there any harm in doing it a bit earlier?

This is my daily commuter, and I drive it 1500 miles a month on average... so I really want to get 500K out of this car if at all possible (and it appears that it is possible based off of some of the other users)

I run only full synthetic and change the oil and filter every 5k.

Ideas?

There is no harm to doing it earlier than recommended. Just make sure it's done right.

It might be unnecessary and a waste of money, but it can't do any harm.

I've got the same year and have been thinking about changing the plugs despite only having 21K. Since it can be weeks between when I drive it (I have other vehicles and travel a lot for work), I wonder if all that sitting my cause the plugs to foul earlier than expected.

I obviously would pull then first to see how they look.

Cheers! M2

I would change the transmission oil now. I changed mine at 70k and saw how dark it became with particles in the oil. I think it's better to get that out of the transmission and it won't hurt anything if you change early.

Thanks for the replies. =)

Just a few more quick questions

On the replacement of the coolant I know I need the Toyota OEM "pink" stuff that is specially made for the car, however do I need a "flush" or "exchange" when it comes to replacing the coolant?

Same story for the transmission. Is it a full drain and fill? I heard that you don't / can't drain an auto transmission completely, and it takes several cycles to do so.

Also, any recommendations on spark plugs? i've used Bosch in the past and had good results - http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...uestid=2771189

Thanks.

Denso or NGK iridium are excellent . Think it states it in the owners manual .

The radiator fluid should be flushed, but draining and filling with distilled water two times while the engine is running should be enough. Then fill as specified.

The transmission can be drained and refilled. There is no need to be anal. Getting most of the particles out and changing frequently will reduce wear.

I have yet to change my plugs or do a coolant flush @ 120K. Car runs perfect on the original plugs. I do plan on doing these things soon.

At 80K, I personally wouldn't worry about it. If you are very comfortable financially and want to do things early, then that's your choice.
