Great sounding subs

Hi, I am still trying to decide on a sub. I am wondering what are you oppinions on great sounding subs and subs with the most range. I am looking for qualitly over noise here, cost isn't an issue until 350 really for the cone. I am only going to get one, also

I like DLS brand. I have the nobelium 10 which I think is one of the best sounding subwoofer around.

been into car audio for a while, played with tons of goodies started from the cheapo to the high end.... at one point, I had more the $20G value sitting on my office just because I like to collect them....but Im no expert :P

its hard to tell which subwoofer will suit you best unless you hear it yourself....good brand usually have a good sounding...Just my .02cent.

I like fast and deep impact sounding sound since I listen to trance, house some dubstep most of the time.

Agreeing with several of the posts on here...

Enclosure is most of the battle. I can say that you do hear the differences between subs. My latest experiment was the difference between two different 8" sub types and two different enclosure types.

The Digital Designs 1508 is a pint sized powerhouse designed for a vented enclosure.

The "old" Image Dynamics ID8 is a well behaved, no surprises, sealed enclosure player.

I've also got my Hertz ML3800 15" sub sitting in my spare bedroom after I changed the trunk layout to house only amplifiers (and a tank and compressor). If you can spare the space, a 15" is one hell of an experience. As of right now, I really appreciate the 8" woofer's tonal accuracy and lack of slop (thank you enclosure)...the kicks are correct with the 8...

I understand the enclosure idea but I don't really feel the need for 2, I have a liftback and don't need thumping base, just good sound. I didn't know if there was a lower power sub that was a good as the 800+.

SSA Icon or Dcon
Digital Designs
Incriminator Audio
Sundown Audio
Image Dynamics

Just to name a few. You could probably do (1) 12 inch woofer in a sealed box and get decent SQ.

What do you have done to your car already ?

Big 3
Size of amp (Rms /watts)
Multiple amps
Cd player / Headunit
Upgraded front speakers

And you'll need to figure out how much space you want to take up in the cargo area of your hatch. That'll play into which subs you get.

Maybe you should just try upgrading the front stage and a 4 channel amp to start off then possibly go with a ported 8 inch digital designs sub in the back. If you decide to go this route you'll need to check the RMS of the sub and match it with an amp.

I've done the Fronts with Kenwood 1370s, not to nice but I didn't want to move up to a higher price range yet. HU is a jvc kw-r900bt
No amp yet but bare minimum it will be a jl XD700/5, maybe up from there with the fronts bridged because I don't have passengers in the back 99% of the time and backs are dumb lol.

I was thinking of a small 8 but they just don't get the lows and most of them were muddled. I was looking at one 10 or 12

Which 8's are you refering too ? If i'm correct SqComp just won a competition with a single 8 inch woofer. I'll Pm him to verify.

Find a nearby shop that sells Sundown or Digital Designs and i'm pretty sure they'll change your misconception on 8 inch woofers.

What price do you have in mind for a component set in the front. I couldn't find your current Kenwoods, and they will be far from impressive just running off your Headunits power.

I meant low end 8s like bazooka, i thought that is what you meant to. I'm in Canada and no stores around here have those. I will try to find some small dealer and look into it.

honestly small subs are amazing now. Heard a HAT 6.6" IS6W powered by a 400 watt amp. Totally amazing, and really sold me on the sq and the fact it isn't going to push so much air it will give me a migraine. Sounded great with all sorts of music styles to me, really impressive.

"why" is talking about this little woofer: (Yes it's Impressive) but after all you may have a favorite or maybe 2 that you like, and it's all about install, a good box will make a cheap woofer sound great! and a quality woofer sound even better! also the signal will play an important roll. And don't forget! what you want! set up your goals and we'll give you a hand.

Confirming, I've won regional SQ events with my Hertz 15", a single ID 8, and the latest event was with two ID 8s.

One word of advice from my experience, watch the tuning frequency on the ported enclosures. If you use a pre-fab, you're most likely going to have a high tuning frequency for louder impact...that will ultimately cause the accuracy, tonality, and frequency extension of the sub bass to suffer.

Just something to consider.

Where in hockey land are you?

Near Toronto if you know where that is. Yea know what you mean by the prefabs. I don't know what im doing about that yet. Are any of the shallow mount subs good? Was thinking of putting one in the liftback, going to the wreckers and grabbing a few to try different mounts

Shallow mounts... *meh*

I haven't heard any yet that make me want to replace my traditional subs with one. That being said, *shameless plug* I know Scott will have a Legatia "shallow mount" woofer later this year. I'll be one of the first to test it...and presumably one of the first to have one installed. Scott has promised several technological patents on this sew woofer and that it will live up to the SQ test...

Arc Audio isn't a bad choice.

Half our competition team uses Arc products. I don't simply for the fact that my shop doesn't push it. Loyalty and all.

I use to have a 2008 tacoma prerunner regular cab 4x4 which was obviously limited in space..I went to a local stereo shop and the guy custom built one 8" JL Audio sub that was placed behind my seat. This sub completely blew my mind and would set off car alarms. In my humble opinion the enclosure is just as if not more important than the sub..JL Audio is awesome too.
