Buying a Yaris, probably today....

I don't care, I like the way these things look.

I have my eye on 2 Yarises (Yari, what is plural for Yaris?) Both are hatches and manual trans base model 2 doors.

1. 2008 Red 36000 miles Certified (warranty up to Sep 2015 / 100k mi) $12,400 out the door TTL

2. 2007 Blue 27,000 miles $11,100 out the door TTL.

I am not sure which one to get. They are equal cars as far as that goes, at least to me.

This seems like a good price to me for each one.

I like the 2007 better.
Nicer color. Lower mileage, Cheaper.

I too like the color of the 2007 ... and really specs wise they are probably very similar.

I agree. I also notice the red has faded on the 2008s that I see...........but I imagine that is likely due to geography (SE Texas vs New Jersey).

Noooooo! Don't do it! For that much money why not get a later model or save a few more thousand for a 2012 model?
Sorry. It's your money, not mine.

Whichever one you get good luck with it!

(did you check out Toyotas pricing on new ones? They gave me $4000 for my trade in with a suspect tranny and 0% financing)

The price is out the door. The asking price is 11,300 and 9,900 respectively. I don't have a trade as I sold my WRX before I moved to NJ last week.

So you have found ones cheaper than what I have listed? There are cheaper ones around with MUCH higher mileage. I have to have Manual Trans and Hatchback, mostly Sedans around here for less.

These seem to be solid in the reliability department. Is Toyota Certifed important? That seems to be the biggest difference between these two.

Yea I would go with the lower mileage too. They are mechanically identical and once you buy it, you will drive it for 300,000 miles. Save the money and get the cheaper one with less mileage!

Hmm maybe yes maybe no. Personally I tend to go with a private sale if Im going used.

However i have noticed (looking for used cars for my son) that a lot of people are selling used cars with problems.

You might be doing the right thing by going with a dealer used car if they have a good track recoed in your experience...

There is only 1 private sale of a Yaris around here. I pretty much have to go through the dealer.

The dealer with the cheaper Yaris is sort of far, the other dealer would come and get me (I have no car at the moment).

I don't think the price will move much. The Yaris is a really good car for these parts and they seem to sell sort of quick.

I'd go with the '07.

I won't make any comments on price. You know your territory/availability/pricing and I believe it is pointless for anyone geographically removed to comment on $.

Go with the one that pleases you most . Take them both alone ( if possible ) for another test drive on some quiet rough streets to listen for any noises ( suspension , etc. ) . Then pull over in a parking lot to look at the top of the engine and under for any leaks . I've found some '07s and '08s to have a valve cover leak on the backside corner on the passenger side . Bring a flashlight and use it to look through the oil fill to look for any excessive varnish . Check dipstick for any varnish too . Then check air filter to see if changed . Then run finger on inside of tailpipe to check for any soot . If any these things exist , may be a sign of neglect . Last , look at the coolant resorvoir before driving to see if it's low . If so , could be water pump issue . Good luck and keep us informed on your purchase .

I have that blue color in an '08, and while I would have preferred the darker color, it certainly grew on me. On the plus side, cops don't see it. Literally. I almost got t-boned by a State Trooper pulling onto the interstate while I was going 70mph. Red cars are a bit more noticeable. Granted, this doesn't matter if you don't drive like, well, like I tend to ;)

I don't know about the US but I know that in Canada here a new 2012 Yaris is being advertised on Toyota's website as being $13,500. (Correction ... the ALL IN price with taxes etc is $16,475)

The prices that you have listed for the used Yaris' seem to me to be very high. It doesn't appear that the cars you have listed have a lot of options (like power windows / locks etc). They seem to be the lower end models.

Since the Cash for Clunkers a few years ago, used car prices have been sky high. If you can afford a few thousand more, its smarter to buy the new car than a used. But you are right they are high.

I bought my 2007 3 Dr RS LB for $4500 (yes I paid like I stole it). Somehow paying 12 grand for a 2007 model year that doesn't even have a lot of the goodies just seems to be high. Really you are buying a 5 year old car (even if it is a Toyota).

Personally if I was paying that much money ... I would seriously consider buying new, that way you are not buying someone else's problems.

However I am not familiar with prices in the US, so disregard if I am really thinking craziness.

Happy travels.

I didn't buy a Yaris today. I walked 5 miles to apply for a job and I got it. I just moved to NJ and my job fell through. I picked up this one, 11 an hour but it is fun and I get free waterpark tickets, free mountain biking (sick downhill trecks) and free snowboarding....perfect for working and going to college in the fall.

Yeah, the ones I listed are crank windows. It is such a tiny car that I don't mind. I can't find a damn thing cheaper than the ones I listed (unless a ton of miles).

07462 is my zip if anyone sees a kiler deal.
