Anyone grind down their calipers?

Im trying to fit some wheels on my car and even with a 1/4 inch spacer I cant clear the caliper. So my question is: How safe is it to grind your caliper brackets down (part closest to the hub)?

I think if I grind it down a good amount I will be able to clear the wheels... otherwise I might just have to get rid of them , I cant space them anymore due to the length of the wheel studs.
