Wow!!!!!! That is crazy expensive. The drive belt is under $20 and takes 10 minutes to replace, the thermostat gasket is unlikely bad, unless you see antifreeze on the floor after you park your car, and the radiator hose(s) you can see when you open the hood. They too are likely still fine.

Are you sure is was $400 for a rad hose? $150 for the Tstat is a bit high, but not obscene. $400 for a rad hose is.

Eesh. That's bad.
I looked up the labour time, and it's written as 1hr for upper, and 1hr for lower so they are charging full labour for both. The thing is most of the 1hr is spent draining and filling coolant so it should be 1hr for the lower, then 0.1hr for the other hose. It's called "labour overlap" and they should be charging accordingly. Also, don't forget that they wanted to charge full labour time to do the Tstat as well. Again, most of the labour there is from the drain and fill of coolant. So guessing $250 in labour, $100 in hoses and $50 in coolant. There is the ridiculously high $400 for two rad hoses. I would be tempted to go in and ask them about labour overlap just to see them squirm as I think it's safe to say they were trying to..... hose you. |
