Scan gauge and fill up
After correctly setting the device up with correct engine size and correct tank size, problem is it seems to be way off when i refill the tank, when the tank is filled and i reset to a full tank it should be reading a few gallons either way but in my case its 50+ gallons off, i;ve only got an 11 gallon tank.
What am i doing wrong?

Recalibrate it. It should take about 3 tanks to calibrate correctly. After calibration, my gallons taken in was always correct. I then purposely miscalibrated it to make my average mpg lower than my calculations (purposely doing this to make me drive better since it'll read about 1.5 mpg lower). However, it's always consistently reading off, if that makes sense. LOL

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. On your second fill up, did you enter the amount you filled up or just entered 11gal? On your second fill, you don't reset the Scangauge and enter 11gal. That's like starting all over again. Follow the instructions and it will tell you to enter the amount you actually filled on your second fill. The refill should be less than 11gallons (maybe about 8 or 9gal, look at the pump when you're done) unless you reached the gas station on an empty tank.

do we need to have a video tutorial? :)
sometimes it's hard to explain certain things with words. I'm very visual myself. |

There are some how to videos at YOUTUBE . Not sure if calibrating the gas tank is one of them . Happy hunting and post your findings . Good luck .

I've just transferred the scan gauge from my 05 Echo to the 08 Yaris.
I had the same problem with the gauge on the Echo so just never bothered to input the fillup. Installed it on the Yaris then went and filled it up,went to the fillup mode and it read 55 gallons, should i have re calibrated that 55 gallons back to the 8 gallons i actually put in the car? or wait till the second fill up and see what it says?or just run the gauge as is which seems to be giving fairly accurate mpg rating.

Always put in the fill up info after filling up so that it resets the gauges. Part of calibrating it too.

I think you should put in the actual 8.x at the next 2 fill ups. Not sure how it came up with 55 other than something to do with whatever mode it happened to be in when you transferred between cars.
I have recalibrated 2x since I bought mine. The initial time took 3 tanks, and the others just 2. (loaned it out to a friend) The MPG difference when not calibrated has only been about 7% for me. |
