Yaris will not accelerate
Howdy Guys/Gals,
I have a 2007 Yaris 3 dr. approximiately 85000-90000 miles on the odo. This morning while driving to work I experienced a loss of acceleration. I pressed the accelerator down to the floor several times to no avail. However I did notice that upon SLOWLY pressing the accelerator I could come back up to speed. I ended up making it to work but the problem persists. There is no way I can make it up the freeway ramp with sufficient speed to meet traffic. Does anybody have any ideas on what could have happened or what kind of problem this may be? Thanks for your help. |

Sounds like your clutch is worn/slipping.

With a automatic it may be the torque converter. Have you checked your transmission fluid? Also the Yaris uses special toyota ATF which you can get online or at the dealer.

The level is above the two notches so I believe the transmission fluid is ok. How do you check on the torque converter?
I have a scan gauge II can that help me diagnose the problem in any way? I have already scanned for codes and there were none noted. |

Guessing that you might have a clogged fuel filter

The OP needs to explain just a bit more..
Is it the engine that will not accelerate when pressing on the throttle or does the engine rev but the car does not pick up speed. If the engine revs but the car does not pick up speed, then the transmission would be suspect. If the engine does not increase rpm when the throttle is depressed, then one of the engine control systems needs to be diagnosed. |

I agree, it could be a dirty MAFS if it only involves the engine.... a somewhat common overlooked problem.
With 90,000 miles, it could indeed be dirty. http://youtu.be/_TO7ZC5N-aA |

Is the car throwing an engine code???
you can check the RPMs with the scangauge along with open/closed loop. I think that will tell you more about what is going on. if your fuel filter is clogged, that is an SOB there. I would check the RPMs to make sure it isn't trans related and if it isn't, change air filter and clean the MAF. also clean the throttle body while you're at it (actually not a bad idea to do regardless). good luck |

Hey Guys! Thanks for all the advice. It turns out it was an electrical short. About 6 months ago someone stole my radio and severed the wiring harness that connects the radio. I took it to the dealership to have it troubleshot and they said they found a loose wire that was causing all the problems. They reattached the wire and apparently all is running well so far...
Thanks again for all the good ideas. |
