Air filter recommendation needed, please...
I own a 2006 Toyota Yaris four door sedan and I got my oil changed today. I was told that my air filter was dirty and needed to be replaced. Normally I'd have them do it because I hardly have any free time. However, I'm on vacation so I can finally have fun with my car.
I found some air filters and have no idea which ones to get. Here are my choices: I'm leaning towards these two, but I have no idea what the difference is: http://www.upgr8.com/store/2006-2013...ir-filter.html http://www.upgr8.com/store/2006-2013...ir-filter.html I also found these: http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...ir_filter.html http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...%26+Drivetrain Then there's what the garage wanted to install for me (for $26.95?!?): http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...%26+Drivetrain I'm not a car guy by any means, so please be patient with me

I like the Wix filters from rock auto.com . When I compared them to Toyota, I found there to be little to no difference in the quality.

I always used Toyota OEM filters, since they were designed to do what it was supposed to.

i would say K&N or anything like that so u can clean it but keep ur old one for when u clean the other cos they need to dry out and be oiled so u can use ur old stock at that time if needed .

Definitely go with stock filters. Definitely AVOID KN and the like. The oil tends to foul the MAF sensor.
Unless you drive in really nasty conditions the stock filter is good for lots more than 30k miles. I recently did a tuneup on a 2004 ST1300 motorcycle with 70,000 miles on it. Original AF and sparkplugs. The engine ran like a watch before doing the work. The AF was encased in about 3/4 inch of oily crap yet the surfaces downstream of the filter were spotless. Since the Honda dealer didn't have the right plugs we regapped and installed them since the color of the plugs was textbook normal. We did change the AF which has a recommended interval of 12,000 miles. Incidentally another ST1300 at the tech meet had iridium plugs which supposedly last 100,000 + miles. Well one of them was severely worn away! Shocked everyone! This engine also ran perfectly normal in spite of the damage. Moral of the story: Don't waste your money on fancy plugs, filters, and (synthetic) oil!

Only reason that happens cos ppl don't wait till filter dry and all u need is very little oil ...best let it sit over nite so oil can penetrate otherwise they work awesome ...or better yet get a short cold air with dry filter that has to be washed ...its all about how u maintain it

I've got a K&N I've never used. I'll ship it to anyone that wants it for $33.

Hey guys.. Other then the dealership, has anyone been able to find Denso aftermarket air filter online??.. If you check Denso's website, they do not list a aftermarket part# for our Yaris...
Thanks |

Kind of an old thread, but didn't see a need to start my own...
I hear there is a 'high performance' or 'TRD' air filter that fits our stock air box. The guy making this claim had an 07 he put one in and said it almost doubled his mileage! Seems a little far-fetched to me, but if it were even 20% better I'd do it. Can anyone confirm or deny the existence, and benefits, of this filter??? And maybe a part number? |

The TRD filter is the K&N drop-in filter.

I just use the one they sell at Canadian Tire and I usually go around 30,000km minimum on them. That being said I clean it with compressed air every 8,000km or so when I do my oil. So far I have found that the filter does not get that dirty.
