Unfortunately, Toyota has done next to nothing to promote the Yaris... absolutely no advertising, no incentives, and virtually no Yaris to be found at most Toyota dealerships. Plus, this great little car continues to get a bad rap from "reputable" sources. The Yaris that we know (and love) will soon be a thing of the past.

I go to Toyota's USA FB page regularly and they promote EVERY OTHER VEHICLE that they sell in the US but the Yaris. Been checking for months. They don't give a shiite about the Yaris.

I think the Yaris has a lot of factors working against it right now in the US, and I don't think that lack of promotion by Toyota is the most significant now. First of all gas prices in the US are at or near historic lows which only encourages car buyers to go with big crossovers and SUV's. Secondly the current Yaris (hatchback) has been in production since 2010 and is really showing it's age against much more modern cars in the class like the Honda Fit. Toyota needs to hurry up with the next gen Yaris if they want to save the car in the US. Look at the gearbox, it's an 4 speed auto which belongs on a 96 Corolla (that's 20 years ago BTW) not a brand new 2016 Yaris or any other 2016 Toyota.

Most of the people shopping in this class either go PRICE-FIRST, or look for the most "modern"/updated tech available in the segment. The Yaris isn't the cheapest subcompact, and while reliable as hell (class-leading actually), isn't employing the latest tech/"safety features" found in other cars that many people seem to think that they "need" (and at the cost of long-term reliability usually).
What attracted me to the Yaris/Vitz, as someone who prefers subcompacts/compacts, was (1) the overall SE styling/features package as a whole, (2) the fact that it DID NOT have all the unnecessary (to me) "tech-bloat" that manufacturers are cramming into cars now, and (3) that it is a hatchback. I even wish the 2015/2016 had a non-touchscreen radio system, since it is nothing but a big, blinding glare-screen where I live anyway. Last edited by Kalispel; 05-06-2016 at 04:08 PM. |

I like the simplicity and bullet-proof reliability of the Yaris. For an economy hatchback, the car is plenty quick and nimble, and performs very well. The 4-speed automatic is a brilliant little tranny... and suits me just fine.
When it came time to replace my 2007 Yaris, I drove the new CVT Fit on several occasions... and I really wanted to like it; however, compared to the Yaris, the Fit is an underperforming POS. I much preferred the Yaris and chose to purchase a used 2014 LE... which I love! |

I hate that cars like the Yaris are dying. What drew me to the Yaris the most when I bought mine was that I didn't have to get a keyless entry, fancy touch screen garbage, etc. It's just a simple car that works. I don't care for hatchbacks, so the new Yarii have been dead to me for a while anyway, but it's a shame to see small cars in general going by the wayside. The US has already brutally murdered the small truck market. It seems subcompacts are the next thing on the chopping block.
