Hey there...
I'm not what you'd call a rally fan in that I don't follow rally events closely, but I do think rally racing is fantastic. On a related note, I worked at the ice rink the Anaheim Ducks used to train at during the Teemu Selanne days. He was into rally and nearly killed himself in an accident. He had a ridiculous fleet of cars. Some of us on the forum have been following Toyota's entry into rally this coming year with a Yaris and Tommi Mäkinen as the driver... http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/janua...2--12-12-.html http://www.racer.com/international/w...ivers-for-2017 |

Rally fan here! We attend the Oregon Trail Rally every year as media. Fun event, great cars. I actually have an article coming out in Toyota Cruisers & Trucks about the Rally RAV4.

I'm looking to do stage rally in the next couple of years.
I wish the rally scene here in Canada was half as big as Finland. There aren't many events, and they are pretty expensive. I've always thought rally seemed more affordable in the Finland (and other parts of Europe). Here you have to be really committed to racing if you have an average income. A well-used, entry-level but stage-ready 2wd costs about 1/5th of the average yearly income around here: How does that compare to Finland? Cheers. |

So much variety for ready to rally !that KP62 on my first link is worth about 20K Euros / USD
That AR86 is little bit more maybe 25K - 30K Euros / USD Volvo 240 15-25K €/$ E36 M3 25-35K €/$ Civic TypeR 20-25K €/$ All these 2wd cars are equal to to take over all wins here in Finland on rallies without pace notes ! Those are equal even to compare with with group N Lancer EVOs and Subarus ! Rallying here is expensive .. Entry payment is 300 - 750 € per rally ! Studded winter tyres 350 - 500€ each and gravel tyres about that same price ! |

Thanks for the info. Just one of those things I've always wondered. Looks like costs are actually not that different than here. Guess you have to be rich to race no matter where you are ;).
Interestingly, this is the first year they have allowed studded tires on stage here. And not the massive spikes you guys use, but little street-legal studs. Curious to see how much of a difference it make.. Cheers. |

No pictures and I really don't know what guys are going to run. Studs must be DOT approved, and stick out 3.5mm or less. The studs are also only allowed in tires meant for studs, so the Yoko A034 winter tires can't run them. I'd guess guys are going to run the A034 if it's snowy, and studded tires such as the Hakkapelliita for icier events.
Here is the updated rule: https://carsrally.ca/wp-content/uplo...in-2016-01.pdf So yeah, when you watch Canadian rally and laugh at how slow they are going keep in mind they aren't running big ice studs haha. |
