Yaris vs Vitz
Hello to everyone,
So I was looking to buy a 2012 Yaris for my wife and while talking to quite a few used car dealers one of them made the following claim. I should get a Vitz not a Yaris because cars manufactured in the E.U, France specifically, were of inferior quality to the Japanese made ones. Not talking about Toyota vs Opel, but the same car made at a different factory. He also told me the parts were different and parts from the Toyota Yaris dont fit in the Vitz and vice versa, at that moment my bullshit detector went off, I thanked him and left. I was under the impression that a Yaris and a Vitz were mostly the same car. Is there any truth in what this guy was saying? Are E.U cars made to a lower standard ? Thanks |

100% BS.
I am on my 3rd french yaris and there has been absolutely none issues that you can relate to were its made. And my mother has also just bought her 3rd french yaris since 2002 and absolutely no problems. And most parts is also the same, there is some minor differences on the brakes, but the price is the same for new parts. But with that said the first gen of the XP13 2011-2014 has really poor and hard plastic quality inside the car. I would look for a facelift from 2014 and up its much better.

Hah, that sounds great! Somehow the car dealers are correct, but this is your choice. You have your preferences, and that should be your decision. But specifications show better what you can get. Also, look upon the internet for some blogs about these two cars or watch videos on youtube, where you could learn more about them. Usually, when I plan to buy something, I'm looking for information and videos about that product. If you plan to buy a used car, check this article about what I should ask when buying a used car.

Some internal parts of the 3rd Gen Yaris are different (windshield wiper arm/motor, wire engine bay wire harness, ABS controller, etc.) but common consumables should be the same (brakes, oil filter, lights, etc.) I don't know how that relates to France vs. Japan production though.

NOT B.S.
My 2014 French made Yaris had many different part numbers than the Japanese made Yaris... even though the parts often seemed to be identical when compared side to side! But, some parts did have minor differences. I was also shocked that parts were generally significantly more expensive for my French made Yaris. I can't address whether my 2014 French made car was inferior to a 2014 Japanese build. But, I can state that my 2007 Japanese made Yaris was a far better build than my 2014 French made car. |

I wasn't any more impressed with my Japanese-built 2020 Corolla SE 6-MT sedan than I was my French-built 2015 Yaris SE 5-MT hatch. If anything, less. I would rate my Corolla ownership experience at 7/10 & my Yaris at 9/10. I'm probably going to pick up something different in model year 2022 or 2023. Still really sad that Toyota doesn't offer the TNGA Yaris or Yaris Cross in the USA. I would trade my 2020 Corolla SE sedan for a 2018 Yaris SE hatch (last year they were offered in the USA) in a heartbeat if one was nearby, but they never even sold them in this region of the USA to begin with (otherwise I would already have one).

I literally haven't had a SINGLE issue with my France built NCP131 other than the annoying clutch shudder issue when cold(I just live with it) and the zombie like throttle mapping, but those aren't really the fault of the car.
