Is it worth undercoating a new Yaris?
Is it worth undering coating a new Yaris? Why?... btw I live in Canada, so in winter we get salt on the road... although I am trying to save every penny, but if its something worth doing before I pick up my car then I will get it done... thanks for your opinions!

I live in Northern BC and they did it automatically. From the description I'm sort of happy they did, because not only does it protect against the rock, ice chunks, salt, etc, but it (allegedly) makes the ride a bit quieter on not-so-smooth highways. And it definitely keeps some warmth in.

get it done when it's brand new so there is no dirt or chips yet that can make it less effective if you choose to do it in the future

Generally modern cars do not need undercoating. Underbodies are lined with bitumic compounds. Also - due to usage of galvanized sheet metal, there's no need to do "oil spray". Hope it helps.

Consumer Reports advises against it.

We always undercoated new cars when I was a kid to protect against corrosion. With new manufacturing techniques/metal finishes it is not necessary. It will dampen interior noise to some degree in certain applications, but you also risk trapping moisture causing moisture. If you want to darken the inner fender well I would be more prone to a thorough cleaning and flat black paint application myself.

Put the money into sound deadening. You'll get improved stereo performance.
