OK guys, I think I owe you an update and a bit of an apology, I have not yet been able to ship out the stuff.

I originally wanted to use DHL's slower, cheaper sea+air freight shipping system, and was told it was possible. But then last week when I asked them to arrange it, it turns out it is not available to the general public, only corporate account holders or something like that, and that I would have to use their Express service, which is nice and fast, but way above the shipping budget.

So, we have found a shipping company which can arrange more or less the same service with door-to-door delivery, customs brokerage, etc. They will get back to me on Monday with a final quotation and shipping time, and we should be able to get the packages out Monday or Tuesday.

Sorry to keep you all waiting (again) :frown:

Hmm depending on the way you pronounce it, yes, or else you could have just offered me a mustache and a disc...

ANYWAY a real update, UPS is coming to pick up the goods this afternoon!
The air freight quote I got earlier was wrong, the guy did not take into account the size of the packaging, so in the end it turns out UPS is slightly cheaper, but it's till gonna end up way more than I estimated :frown:

So, they'll pick it all up today, and the estimated arrival at vodkalush's door will be next Wednesday  I'll post tracking numbers here as soon as I get them.

Thanks for waiting, guys!!!

There's quite a few things available here as options, or on the high-grade cars, but it's not so easy to order them, as they are not considered accessories. Stuff like the keyless entry/ignition system, the A-pillar trims with built in tweeters... Even if I can get them, they probably will not be cheap.

It is highly possible that the LED side mirrors will not fit some/all US models.

I was making a DIY part II(Continuing where Etimago left off (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6447))when I noticed that there was a major error w/ the mirror.

Can you see the difference?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/gourrry/STP60317-1.jpg

Circled which prongs don't fit/there's an extra/or is missing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/gourrry/STP60317-2.jpg

Tried my best to aligned the pictured as best as possible
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/gourrry/STP60317-3.jpg

I'll try my best to describe my car to the best of my abilities.
My car is a 2007 3 door Toyota Yaris with the power package(in California). That includes power: doors, steering, windows, sideview window, and auto locks.

Like Etimago mention, the mirror is a bit bigger/thicker then the stock version and some prongs point the other directions too.

Jerkratt

maybe if you dont have power mirrors? when ig et time ill try and look behind mine

eTiMaGo
06-27-2007, 02:05 AM
ah dammit... Thanks for finding that out, vodkalush also reported the same problem, but I assumed it was just a sedan thing.

So where does this leave us... looks like two of the clips are aligned (the one in the bottom right corner, can you check on that?), so that's the bare minimum to hold the cover in place, but I think your best bet will be to remove the non-aligned clips and use some double sided tape (or even some velcro if you need it to be removable?) along the top edge to hold the cover in place.

I'm really sorry for this mishap, guys, who would have thought Toyota would manufacture two different versions of the exact same thing? :frown:

06-27-2007, 02:09 AM

Yes, I wonder if it's a 3-door/5-door thing, or a difference by country of manufacture...

You could try that tracking number in the mexican post office website, it might tell you the name of the donkey on whose back the box is

I didn't purchase the covers myself, but am curious of 3M double sided tape would work in this application? If so it would be plenty strong enough and could be removed in the event of a repair with out damage and minimal clean-up.

I tried relocating the tabs without much success... so i just snipped them off and applied 3m decal/trim adhesive (almost like rubber cement) and it looks like should i need to go into the mirrors that it will just require alittle clean-up.

ill post too let you all know in a few days weither or not the mirror covers are still on, and about that time i'll actually wire them up...

Could the inner piece/mating surface be purchased to allow the use of the tabs?

That would be pretty much the whole mirror assembly, and who knows if it's even compatible with the rest of the car...

Wait to see vodka's luck. Violin had a point too. Maybe remove the tabs and adhere them to the ones you want to replace!

eTiMaGo, what are the openings on the gauge pod? 1- 3 3/8" (85.7mm) and 2- 2 1/16" (52.4mm)? Can this be connected to the dash in any manor, ie velcro, double sided tape, screws, etc? How much would shipping be for the empty pod to 54911 or do I have to wait for another group buy? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I re-read the first page on shipping.

Yes, that sounds about right for the sizes, I measured them with a ruler at first:

Center hole: 9cm (a little more than 3.5")
Side holes: 5cm (2")

Notice how the yaris in thailand has no yellow blinker in the headlight on the sedan. I want to do that with mine here and get yellow bulbs.. That bumper for the sedan is hotness. does it light up?

eTiMaGo
07-02-2007, 08:48 AM
what you have is not actually a blinker, but a reflector, a mandatory safety device in the US so that the car is easier to see at night or whatever.

The red things on the back bumper here are the same, just reflectors, not lights of any kind.

Sway84
07-02-2007, 09:12 AM
but those reflectors are sooo sexy lol... and it changes the form of the bumper just because of those reflectors

hahahah well go to a stationery store, find some red 3M reflective tape, cut to shape, and there you go!

Yhaaaa, my side mirrors are still on after about 600miles and some of which where over flood damaged roads (pot holes galore) and about 40miles of dirt roads... also they held-up through some night time fog with rain. So no worries :)

I'm gonna wire them up tonight (hopefully)

Really? What color was it? I have a bad feeling it was meant to go to someone else who ordered it along with the stuff...

PS I think I misread that as a YarisWord sticker

I think there was a "Sakura" sticker in all of the mirror cover boxes...

I just got back from the post office with my package! Everything looks OK, except for one of the pegs on the tail lights that broke during shipping (no biggie).

The muffler cutter is a lot bigger in person. I am really psyched with it! The pedal set looks great as well. The rear step guard is smaller than I thought (I'm thinking that is due to the fact that the JDM bumpers are smaller).

I did get a Sakura sticker, but I don't think I'll be putting it on the car. I really should've ordered a YW sticker, though...

Now, if I only had a car to put these accessories on... Still have to wait a couple of weeks for my baby to come back to me.

You da man, Thomas!

I hope Thomas doesn't mind me posting this, but here it goes...

Those gauge housings are for RHD cars. I bought one of those a while ago and I've always wanted to use it as a base design (not a mold).
I can get those housings made in high quality fiberglass and painted with either a matte or glossy finish with the correct LHD orientation if you guys are interested, but I need a few more ppl to be willing to commit in order to do a full production run.

eTiMaGo
03-17-2009, 06:07 AM
yeah to be honest as it turned out, installing those was a real PITA for whoever bought them. tk-421 has some awesome ideas for a similar design that would work way better for you guys!

tk-421

I may be interested TK. Can you still use the glovebox with this cluster?
You could, but the available space will be limited by how you do the installation (the gauge cables have to go through the back of the door and into the glovebox after all). I suppose that a clean install job will give you the most available space in the end.

So in short: Yes, you can still use the glovebox.

mrbond
03-17-2009, 11:25 AM
Hell yeah, I would totally be on board! I wasn't aware that it was a PITA to install, but hopefully tk-421's design would be a lot simpler.
Now, tk-421, how are you going to be working with the glovebox? I mean, are you going to provide some sort of template that one could use to cut into the glovebox, or provide a new cover? Just a bunch of questions because I'm hella excited to get rid of my tiny tach :P
