Dark Color Cars

I'm afraid that by the time summer rolls around, I am going to wish that I had not gone with such a dark color. I chose the Flint Mica, and I love the looks of it, but, Good Lord, it hasn't even gotten past the low 80s for outside temperature here yet, and the inside of that little Yaris sedan of mine is like an oven!

I am posting this in this forum, since people who are considering the purchase of a new Yaris and who are undecided on color can make use of this information, for whatever it is worth.

I love the looks of the Flint Mica, and at this point, I think I would choose it again, but I might change my tune when the hottest part of the summer gets here. I live in western KY, and it gets HOT here in the summer.

Yeah. I tinted my windows and put on a aluminum sunshade when i park it. When i get in now its not exteremly burning hot. Its just warm. About the same temperature outside.

I think even with th emost lightest automotive tint they block a huge amount of the suns energy.

It was about 90 degrees up here all weekend. No more hot interior.

I have 30% tint, which is pretty light.

Yes, you'll see a difference with the tint. Front visor works as well.

Mine was $125 for all the Liftback windows, including rear, including a lifetime warranty.

See, something like that around me would cost $265 for a lifetime. Your area would probably be more like Ryan's.

Yeah, I could probably handle the $125, but not the $265.

Tom, I thought you'd go with the lighter color for that reason (I think I made that comment when you had us guess at the color, remember ), but if it makes you feel any better, I have the Absolutely Red liftback and it does gets pretty hot in there, too. Needless to say, I have the windows open a lot (still not used to having A/C! )

Neither does any usable light whatsoever.
But yes, I agree you should tint the windows. I have medium tint all around, and it's a lot more tolerable on hot days.

I had 5% tint put on my car which is the absolutely red. I live in Oklahoma so it gets HOT. The first day I was driving the car, the heat overpowered the a/c! I paid $199 for the lifetime warranty and the dark tint makes all the difference!

5% is illegal in most states although hot southern states tend to allow it. Rhode Island actually doesn't allow any tint whatsoever because a cop was killed after stopping a car with tint and the driver rolled down the window and shot him. So it ruined it for everyone (like always).

I have 35% (legal limit in Mass) and it certainly helps.

BTW YarisOwnersDad, the exterior color of your car really doesn't effect the interior's temperature. Heat is really just transmitted though the windows via hot sunlight. So don't regret your Flint Mica, white would be just as hot.

my front to windows are 20%, and the rear three are 15%. in south louisiana (where it can reach high 90's with humidity), its not so bad. legal here is 50% in the front two and 35% for the rear three... no one does that, though. i ended up paying $200 for the job

I run the maximum tint allowed by law in my State: 6% on the back, rear windows and a strip at the top of the windshield, and 30% on the front windows.

I use a reflective visor in the windshield when parked, and leave my front windows cracked about 2 inches for circulation as I have window channel visors.

The result of these things is that it is often cooler in my parked car than the ambient temperature. This allows me to go without the a/c even at the peak of Summer.
