Question on quality control and reliability...

Who has better quality control and reliability...Honda or Toyota?
Let's compare the Honda Civic versus Toyota Corolla. Welcome any inputs on personal experience.

Might want to add the year range and base trim so people won't start a war on here

Quality of vehicles i would say they are pretty even, but value for money, and
resale would have to go to the TOYOTA COROLLA , in New zealand anyway.

if you actually wanted an unbiased opinion you would ask in a forum that is associated with neither make.

Better with respect to what? Fewer defects? Fewer wasted features and in whose opinion?

Reliability is another issue. One of the largest recalls in history was the Toyota "oil sludge" problem in one of their upper end models.

I know from personal experience of both Hondas and Toyotas that both will work fine if you keep after them. I also know from personal experience that Hondas are a pain in the ass to work on, and of the three Toyotas I've seen under the hood they are better laid out from a repair point of view than the 1990s models Hondas I've had to repair.

I could have sworn, by the time we hit the year 2000, we were supposed to be on hover cars or something.

It's easier to imagine a machine than to make one.

Search for 2006-2007 (8th generation) Civic engine block crack. Yeah... We have a 2006 that has always used a bit of coolant between oil changes and must be topped off every so often. I'll keep it so long as it's under warranty, but I fear I'm going to join the masses who have already gotten a $7000 repair in the form of a new shortblock. Add this to the 2003 Civic my wife had when we met that required a new tranny at 16,000 miles. I was always a Toyota and Honda person, but now I'm leaning toward Toyota.

I've owned several Toyotas and have NEVER had a single problem with any of them EVER.

In Japan, the Honda has been gaining some popularity in recent years, but it still remains an export only car in the hearts and minds of most Japanese. Surprisingly, you can spend the entire day watching cars drive by in Tokyo and rarely see a Honda among them. For quality, reliability, and cost of repairs, Toyota wins hands down... in Japan, anyway.

Toyota. My friend had a Civic Hybrid that needed a new transmission at 80,000 mi. He had extended warranty so that didn't cost him, but at that time they told him that the head gasket was leaking and would soon need to be fixed. He traded it in and got another hybrid.

By that you mean that it's easier to get Mods for Hondas?

Honda dealerships I've dealt with tend to have a good selection of parts and if they do not have it in stock will bust a move to get the parts to you. The most I had to wait for common parts like Distributor Caps (1990 CRX) and Igniter Modules was two days.

In contrast I've never had to buy any parts for my Yaris. If I had to venture a guess I'd say that the Yaris at least, being sold in every continent but Antarctica, probably has pretty decent spares support from Toyota and probably lots of aftermarket options, at least the standard options.

As far as Mods.... Don't know and I'm not too concerned.
