What GPS unit do you use?

OK, I'm not seeing a recent thread on this, or one dedicated to GPS units only, so here goes.

Post here the kind of GPS unit you use in your car, how you like it and if you had to buy it again, would you?

Pioneer Avic700BT - I picked it up at BB as an openbox, i got them to lower the price to $200 from the 400 they had on it because it was missing some cables. Not a bad deal, but I would like to get the map update for it because it doesnt have some new roads on it, but overall a great product and a lot sleeker than an external GPS unit.

I've got a Magellan Maestro 4250. I've only used it a few times but it seems to work good ie easy to input info. One thing I like is the bigger screen.

I have the TomTom Go 740 Live. Sure you pay extra for the Live services (which gives you the traffic updates and whatnot), but it works nicely for me. It has Bluetooth which was very important for me as that was my only means of handsfree with my iPhone while driving, until recently. I find that it tends to tell me to go particular routes in my local area, even though there are better ones that exist. I just ignore those directions until I get farther along.

I drive the same route daily, and I use it daily. Why, you ask, when I should clearly know the roads by now? Most of the time when I'm driving, the local radio stations either havn't started or are no longer doing traffic reports for the day. So I needed something that could give me a heads up on traffic when the need arises. Sure I could have went with Sirus or XM, but then I wouldn't get the local traffic that I need, since they do primarily large cities only.

Garmin has the best path algorithm, which is what really matters.

no other GPS system will get you there faster.

I have road tested Magellan, TomTom, and Garmin and some type I forgot, all simultaneously (4 GPS with identical routes in the same car same time)....and overall on city streets, the Garmin always beats the others by
5 or 10 minutes, sometimes better than 30 minutes. on 5, 10, 20, 40, and 60 mile routes.


I mean...the TomTom really sucked. I am staring at the screen and following the route and garmin wold have
gotten me there already....yet I followed tomtom and burned off 20 minutes and half a gallon following it's crappy directions.

I like the way garmin draws maps too.

I have a Nuvi.


If I ever got an in-dash system, it must run Garmin. Kenwood does, I do not know if any others do...

Costco carries Garmin Nuvi. They have 2 models, the cheaper one (above) and a more expensive unit, that does blue tooth too. I like that it is subscription free, meaning once you pay for the device, you're done paying. The more expensive unit comes with lifetime map upgrade.

My brother has a Garmin, too and loves it. Pretty cool unit. Can't remember what model number though. It speaks.

Still looking and undecided for now. I don't know anything about these devices, what to look for, are they all pretty much equivalent to each other ... GPS units are nice to have especially in areas where cell coverage is sketchy.

I bought the HU from pennyracer on here. The TomTom GPS pops out of it and has its own battery for using it in another car. It's the same HU as Toyota offers(ed) in Europe and Canada as the TNS400 option. I have the radio trim piece that goes with the TNS400 kit that fits the radio, without requiring the fillers.

I have a Magellan Maestro. I thought I needed a big screen, but with the voice guide you don't need a large screen. That is if all you do is put in the address and drive.

If you drive in the rush hour everyday, there are GPS that can get a FM signal to give you traffic up dates and reroute you to avoid delays.
