For those of you considering the Nexus One, I wrote to Google a few days ago asking if they were planning on coming out with a phone that works on both GMS and CDMA network and here is the answer:

Quote:

Thanks for your email.

We understand that you are interested in knowing whether our upcoming
release of Nexus One compatible with Verizon supports both GSM and CDMA
networks.

Unfortunately, we do not have any information on this.

Please keep checking our web-store for more updates.

Thanks for the link ^ I knew the phone was going to Verizon, didn't know about Sprint but that makes sense.

Plus its on AT&T's network which I hear nothing but complaints from people I know. My father always has call quality issues and call drops all the time (in NYC). My one friend that I know owns an iphone has gone through 4, cause they just stopped working(wasnt covered btw) and also complains of call quality. I actually tried the Droid in the Verizon store and was pretty impressed with it, I would have gotten that, if it wasnt for the additional data plan cost.
Oh really? I would have thought Nextel was alright?

I'm with you. I played with that Moto-Droid in the stores a bit, though, and that thing is FAST!! But like you, I left the store without the phone when they told me how much more my plan would cost.

People complain about AT&T here too. I read somewhere that San Francisco, New York and a couple of other large cities are really bad because those are the places where the iPod is really popular.

^Nextel is an alright network, but it there coverage seems to be really spotty in my state. They actually had to install an interior network just to get our coverage decent cause before in our building there would be constant drop calls or youd have to go to the edge of the building for the person to hear you. I actually was pretty impressed with Verizons network when we went on the metro down to DC, and my phone had full coverage on the entire trip, including underground, and my nextel had zip. A few other people I saw with Iphones also had none. These are my personal experience though.

Umm, last I knew, Nextel was no longer, because it was eaten up by Sprint (and therefore running on Sprint's network)... At least that's how it was when I had my Nextel a few years back.

They are the same, but they are still two seperate networks, our internal booster network, will only work with phones carrying the nextel logo. My boss before this tried buying a "Sprint signal booster" and wondered why they didnt work on our phones. Our one phone which has the Sprint logo, does not get a boost.

TK, and others who like a physical KB, may not want to grab the Nexus One just yet

"The Shadow project is what Motorola are running currently and this is would seen is the most speculated candidate for the Nexus Two. Google’s next Android phone to be launched is said to be a business phone which will have a physical keyboard."

hmm.. maybe good things do come to those who wait

you know I was having second thoughts when I ordered the BB because the "Lexus One" as I like to call it is sooooooooooooooo f'n cool, but in the end, I'll probably be happy I waited when some a moto droid equivalent comes to my network, which is bound to happen eventually.

Interesting... Then again, I wouldn't mind not having a physical keyboard at all times, since I can always get a pretty cheap portable bluetooth keyboard if/when I need it.

For example: http://bit.ly/dezYV2

^ true. and pretty cool! more stuff to carry around though. I kind of like the slider form factor, it's all there, in one piece (well, so to speak).
