RIP Neil Armstrong!! :(

So Neil Armstrong passed away.

Does anyone on this board remember watching live? My parents had to explain to me later that it wasn't "Armstrong the trumpet player" who had landed on the mood but another guy, lol. ;0)

Even if you didn't, it was a HUGE step for mankind indeed, and I for one will forever associate his name with *awesome.*

By the way, here is a very cool website (requires Flash) celebrating the 40st anniversary of the lunar landing (Apollo 11). Interactive and fun, if you're into that sort of things. Requires sound, as well.

Enjoy

I was actually talking about this a few hours ago... How is it that Neil Armstrong dies on the same that Lance Armstrong had all his medals revoked? Quite the coincidence...

At any rate, I'm sure Neil died a happy man, knowing that all history books will bear his name until the end of time. RIP

I was only a year old for "The Landing"...but the Apollo missions went on for a few more years and the moon landing was still fairly big news through the mid 70's. So in a way I "remember" it.

Yup. There were others. But ...

The NASA website has some very cool downloadable pictures if any of you are interested.

I was fortunate enough to sit behind Wally Schirra (one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts and the only astronaut to serve on Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions) at a change of command ceremony on an aircraft carrier and we both attended the same party afterward as well. He had such an aura of humility, quiet confidence, and calmness about him that it was palpable. Re media appearances, I get the same impression of Mark Kelly (former Rep. Gabby Gifford's husband). RIP Neil Armstrong....no doubt you influenced people in a similar way and with even greater influence.
