This is just a reminder :(

On my way home today, I just happened to be right on the other side of the road when a large car coming through the other way hit a pedestrian who was, I believe, jay walking.

The pedestrian probably thinks she had the right of way and could just cross the street because she felt like it (people always do that in my neighborhood, pedestrians and bikes alike both pretty much cross right in front of cars whenever they feel like it, just because they think it's their God given right I guess ).

The black car didn't see that pedestrian obviously and just knocked her right down on the ground. There was a loud noise, a scream and it was all over in a fraction of a second. 2 people now are wishing they hadn't gotten out of bed today :(

Fortunately, there was a fire truck following the black car and they were able to intervene right away, secure the scene, administer first aid, etc. The driver of the black car appeared to have a bloody nose (probably knocked her face on the wheel while hitting the breaks?) and the pedestrian was alive and appeared somewhat OK right now but they imobilized her, cut her clothes open to put stuff on her body so she wouldn't move, and there she was on the ground with her eyes wide open and both of them were scared to death.

I'm telling you this because we can never be too careful behind the wheel (or crossing the street, apparently). We get lax behind the wheel, turn around to pick up something, or tell the kids to shut up, or pick up the phone, or get our eyes off the road to change the radio stations, or whatever... I know I'm guilty of looking at my GPS and the thing isn't located in an ideal spot so I clearly take my eyes off the road each time I look at it.

I am so very thankful I wasn't the one driving the black car because it could have been me. It really can happen to anyone.

Sorry about the downer post, guys Just wanted to remind you all to be careful, shit does happen and let's keep our eyes peeled on the road.
