it's a serious question, what problems do you expect me to be having with a larger filter?

You probably wont have any problems running a larger filter but if it costs more than the regular filter you are wasting your money.

toyota filters all cost about the same..

and having more filtering surface area, how would that be a waste of money? keep in mind i run 15W30 oil that gets a LOT hotter than was intended

If the oil filters all cost the same then use the one with more filtering capacity,odd that the engineers that designed the engine didnt recommend the larger capacity filter given that the price is about the same
