This style of tube end is plenty strong, we use it as a engine bay cross brace for late model cars all the time.
As for the difference in B-pillar dimensions, I am unsure, because I haven't had the opportunity to measure a liftback, I imagine they are close in measurement, but it has about 1.5" of difference built in in the unlikely event they are different.

good thinking. this means your bar will almost certainly fit the scion xA xB, honda FIT, basically all smaller cars :)
