KBB value next winter?

Do you guys think the value of our cars will drop much in a year? Right now my 07' is worth right around $10k according to KBB.com .... I will have my car paid off in November of next year and I want to turn around and sell it to get a 2010/2011 5dr hatch (because I have fallen in love with them!) but I am trying to forecast how much I am going to need to save up (I will never again get another loan for a car ... this was the first time I ever had to - and the last!!) so I figured I would ask everyone for their opinions as I don't really know how blue book values are calculated.

Yes, our value will probably be closer to $8.5K, give or take. That's the one real downside to buying an economy car, but its still a great value.

That's not bad. Only paid 9.5 for mine, so that means $1000 a year (which I would have exceeded in auto repairs for my old Honda, may she rest in peace).

hehe ... I guess it's better than the value of our ION .... as soon as it was announced that Saturn is no longer, I started looking at the price they were selling for and 6 months ago we could have gotten $10,500 for our 06 no problem ... but now, they are selling in the paper and online for $6,500 LOL

So if it's only $1,000 less than that - I'll be fine with it. It gives me a good guesstimate on what I am going to have save up in the next 12 months :)

I love the JBougie type of car buyers
You buy that new car,eat the big initial depreciation, get the car sorted out over a couple of years then i come along and buy it for half the original cost and drive it trouble free for the next 5 years then look for another JBougieThanks.

Between selling the car on your own and driving a negotiating a great price, you might be able to save over $2,000 when you get your new car.

I'm buying a used one .... that's another thing, I will never buy another brand new car - ever. This was my first and last. lol

The only reason we bought this brand new was because my husband wrecked my Eclipse and I NEEDED a car right away and since we had 0 credit we had to get a first time auto buyers loan and they only approved us to get a brand new car, not a used one. Ahh ... the joys of being 22 with no savings - you get screwed into having a purchase a brand new car :) haha it ended up being a good thing though, I don't regret getting her for a minute!

I know how that goes :/ The car is worth a little over 10k, and I owe a little over $10k left to pay .... and I paid just a couple hundred over $15k for my sedan. It hurts when you look in the paper just a little later and kick yourself for having to buy new :(

Cars are not an investment. There are many reasons why you buy new over used. Peace of mind, reliability, and maintenance come to mind. Though any vehicle is subject to having issues, you are far less likely to come across hidden surprises in a new car than new. Remember, there's a reason why that used car, is a used car. Do you really know why it's on the market? If all you are worried about is bottom line, then a simple remedy is to not be the guy who pays MSRP for new.

You may have to wait a while to get a used 2010.

I think I should be able to fine one ... they will be out in the market for a year before I will be in the market to buy one, so I don't think it will be that hard to find one. The 2011 used will be tough, but I don't think the 2010 will be.

We shall see when the time comes, I guess lol

Maybe someone on the forum will need to sell theirs and I'll be able to keep it in the YW family

I am just hoping they will have a white pearl out by then LOL

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed, because that's my favorite color. I'm envious of every Camry I see in pearl white because it's just so close ... yet, so far ...
