As already mentioned, that's likely just as true of drivers talking to someone in the car. Which is a reason that new drivers are limited as to the passengers they can carry in most places. Get a car full of teenagers yakking, and they'll probably drive into something.

In case nobody read the link I posted above, it's to a study showing that accidents haven't gone down anywhere laws against cell phone use have been put in place.

Talking on a headset is no different from talking to someone else in the car.
