i need a registry error repair program

i use avg freeware and spybot all the time, i love them, and have never really had a problem. i cleaned my pc the other day deleting programs and now every 20 min on the dot, my laptop crashes with blue screen of death.

i dont know what it was i deleted, but i dont wanna pay 50 bux for a registry cleaner, and it's not malicious software cuz malwarebytes woulda picked it up...or avg, or spybot.

any way, i dont do many sites other than this and gamefaqs any way...and wife does facebook. any way, any help would be...helpful. thanks

I use Registry Mechanic, it works great. (but I don't know if it will solve your problem)

I don't know if it will help either, but I use System Mechanic Pro. I've used some version of it for a long time, and it seems to work quite well.

I got the newest version (9.5 I think) at Walmart for $35.

Can you do a system restore to before you did the deletions?

if sys restore doesn't do it...you could always try in between the BSOD to go to microsoft's site and snoop around for registry key fixes/downloads...

worst case you could reformat the computer.....

Registry problems can really be a complete pain in the a$$ to try and fix. Even with a good program that is intended for that use.

You may end up having to back up all of your files and re-install Windows entirely.

If you do get System Mechanic Pro however, you're not just getting a registry program. It has a ton of other features built in for maintainance and security. So even if you end up having to re-install Windows, you still have a useful tool that you will use all the time, and may help a similar problem from happening again.

i've been thinking of this any way. i want to run all my programs off a mem stick. i know cruzer makes one that has windows explorer built in and can keep your business stuff on that cruzer, not on the pc. well, if they can do that with explorer, why not cd/dvd burning software, virus protection software, or anything else i wanna run on a short term basis only, and not have permanently installed.

That I don't know. I have never tried that strategy.

I'm not sure that you could do that with a system utility program like System Mechanic Pro, because it does have to interact so deeply within the operating system. There may be some technique to doing this, but I'm not familiar with it myself. To me, at first glance it seems unlikely that it's possible to do with that kind of program.

There are many free registry cleaners that search for errors and orphan files and fix and remove uneeded entrys. I would try there first. The one i personally use is called crap cleaner. Works well. Another possibility could be a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive or memory. Also do you have a cooling system for your laptop. If you set it on top of a couch or bed a lot the fans get clogged up with dust and can not ventelate well. Once they get hot and overheat it cause cause blue screen as well.

To isolate registry from hardware issue you could try first rebooting in safemode and see if it still crashes.

This is why when ever I screw with the registry I aways run "regedit" and use the "export" function to save the registry in case it gets corrupted. Then, it is just a matter of using the "export" function to restore the registry file.

Sadly after the registry gets corruped it usually has you playing wack a mole trying to put out all the fires and often it never does get right.

Exporting a registry file before hand is quik and easy insurance.

+1 copy your registry files. Hate to tell you this, but sometimes it takes a good reformat to get rid of a problem. I should know, just had to go through that last month Recurrent blue screen of death could be a lot of things including hardware problems. Good luck.

For the computers I manage (only 60) this is what I normally do when this occurs.

1. safemode
2. event viewer
3. system restore
4. Automatic Reg fix (mechanic pro, or registry mechanic both great tools)
4. manual reg restore (if created backup prior)
5. reinstall OS.

Luckily I havent had to do any of this with 7.

DONE

just picking at it will waste time and you may never remedy the problem

the above will take a few hours and problem will be GONE. you
can plan on this.

trying to fix in place....guesswork and aggravation
(unless just by coincidence it is a hardware/overheat/bad solder issue)
