My dad is from that area (Saint Lo), it is a very powerful and humbling place to visit

It's not so much the beach but all the green fields with the little white crosses sticking out. I know they've added a museum and shaped up the place since I was there. It'll be a great experience. And you should have no problems communicating with ppl in that area of France (I think they're used to American visitors)
