Steve Jobs February 24, 1955 - October 5, 2011

RIP :(

Quote:
Steve Jobs, the mastermind behind Apple's iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and iTunes, has died, Apple said. Jobs was 56.
"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," read a statement by Apple's board of directors. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts."

Steve Jobs, Apple founder, dies

I consider this an electronics based post. This is why it is here instead of OT.

Sudden news. Suprising? Maybe, maybe not.

Hate him or love him, you must admit his Apple product made a difference in the world.

RIP Steve Jobs

Mine was an Apple IIe.

Yeah, I know, I'm the same person who has criticized certain Apple products in the past, and the "Apple culture" where I live, but you don't have to be a fan of the man or a sheep / fanboy to understand that he was some kind of genius, and it is a very sad day for the tech world.

RIP! :(

For those of you who are interested.

I've run nothing but P/C all the time, but I've always admired and respect his foresight and wisdom. He will be missed.

Exactly. I think you put your finger on it. Regardless of how you felt about the guy as a person, you can't help but admiring the accomplishment, the talent, the perseverance and the vision. And maybe also, the "rags to riches" story (from 2 dudes in a garage to having more money in the bank than the government!) kind of resonates in a lot of people in a good way.

will there be such fan fare for the people who actually implemented most of his ideas into reality/physical form, when they die? he didn't hand make the iphone or ipods, he didn't write the code for every single Os....he founded the company with others, got kicked off the board came back and became a figure head/face to the company.

Honestly.....if anything I would thank him for making us all lazier and more out of touch with the real world around us and making us take for granted the real necessities in life.

I think the i-tech sold more for the hipster factor than it ever will for the real-life applications that everyone thinks it contributes....

I honestly had the last straw with apple when i went to the doctor and the nurse practitioner was looking on webmd on her iphone to try and diagnose my wife's illness (prominent doctor facility and I don't think she works there anymore which proves something)

/rant r.i.p Steve Jobs as a person---- not as a saint/savior/revolutionary

You're right shroomster and as noted I don't buy into the hype, but the guy had something going for him. He was very good at what he did and he was great for Apple. You don't get to his level without having *something* to offer the world.

Here's an analogy - you could have the best most talented crew a ship could ever desire, but if the captain doesn't know how to navigate, the crews talents would be wasted.

PK, for people my generation, i would say it feels like the day John Lennon died. For people my parent's generation, it's probably like the day when JFK died.

It's hard to explain why you feel the shock personally, but you do. I was surprised that I did, too, despite the way I feel about Apple culture in general (I love some of the products because I'm a gadget freak, but I don't necessarily drink the KoolAid, if you can see the difference) and I'm not a fan of the usually superior attitude that of local Apple fanboys (even those who work at Apple retail, enough said).

We don't necessarily miss SJ as a person, but we do recognize the accomplishments (Pixar, Apple)
