Also turned me off, their response to my question:

KCALB? Challenge accepted. Haha. (Kind of an inside joke, KCALB works for the FBI or something like that.)

Can't say I am worried too much about all this...maybe I misunderstand something, but as someone above mentioned, what are these services I am supposed to be so entangled in. Yeah, gmail, that I can easily let go of (switched to it only recently) and a few scribbles on google docs. But then, I don't even have a facebook account, so maybe I am somehow different from many people.

However Google has been giving me this eery feeling for some time now. I mean, I understand that say Microsoft, Apple are big evil corporations, but I do understand why they are that way, for money obviously. They want to sell me expensive things. What Google wants from me so badly so they give me Android/Crome/Gmail/Maps/StreetView etc for free I am not quite sure and that makes me distrust them more. I can't recall seeing a single google ad in months. So what do they want from me again?

I just want simplicity and clarity, had about enough manipulation at this point from pretty much every commercial entity I come in contact with.

I remember last year when Google was busted for collecting kids' social security numbers for their Google Doodle contest. Wonder what they ever did with those?

Oh, and I made the switch yesterday. My gmail account is no more, I deleted Google+, and have started to use the Bing search engine for now.

Well it appears use suspicious types have made an impact possible or else they honestly weren't changing things that much and failed to mention it:

Wow, love the biased article from engadget. I guess it makes sense since they make their revenue off of Google Ads though.

I have found several news articles online today about it now. Not sure though if they are from the same publishers (ZDNet for example, etc) or not. I just feel that as always unless people makes their voices heard things will always slip through the cracks.

i just don't get people who think this is a new thing. Google has been saving copies of the entire internet on a daily basis. They buy server farms by the acre. They already know everything about you, they already scan everything into their databases, even though it violates pretty much every law ever created.

There is no such thing as privacy any more. Everything you've ever done on the internet or with any internet capable phone is saved somewhere and cross referenced. A PI with just one of your e-mail addresses and a sub to certain database sites can find everything about you, every phone number you've ever had, every address you've ever lived at, every place you've ever used a credit card at, etc, etc etc. If you don't want everyone in the entire world to know you've done something the only thing you can do in this day and age is to not do it.

Oh, and guess what? Microsoft does the same thing with Bing, Apple does the same thing, as does every other company out there. They then sell all this data and earn money from it, use it to target ads at you, etc.

Privacy is dead.

Well hell man; just look at all the info you can find out about people just on yarisworld. The real question is; there's 7 billion people in the world.. who would WANT to know about me? It is irritating that people make money off of my information; but I don't see it stopping anytime soon so there's not a huge reason to be angry about it. Protect yourself as best you can; don't go giving your information away; but other than that. .. being mad about it is like being mad at someone at work who took your parking spot; even when you don't have assigned parking spots.

Right?
