Sounds like you are "chunking" your tires. Basically overheating the tread and it comes off in chunks/flakes. This is why performance tires have less tread depth than all-seasons. End of the day, anything you do to reduce the chunking (tire pressure, neg. camber, better tires, etc) will make the car corner faster.... and wear tires faster! If you are worried about tire life, slow down.

PS: I figure if you don't put tires on your fun car no less than every two years, you aren't having enough fun. Then again, I use R-comps for street tires....
