Picked up the tooter et plenum to runner connecting plate today. It's far beyond what I had expected! The plate fits so precisely to the runner base, I couldn't pry it off so I'll just leave there to be welded on. the hemisphere sets on a ledge and centers itself.

Now I'll do one last on the car fitting to rotate the hemisphere and mark the best attitude of the throttle body to line up with the intake.

Next, the hemisphere will be drilled to accept some aluminum tubes for the three hose fittings. Then the whole assembly goes off to the welder!

Tooter's Titter!

Looks like quality design and manufacturing! I'm anxious to see how it works.

This is just a one-off "outside the box" experiment that will never see production because it's not cost effective. It's pure exploration just for the sake of curiosity.

If it makes a big number, I bet somebody will pay you to make another one.

After all, you now have a parts list (with math data).

Although visually different, both plenums still hold the same 26 ounces of water. So the difference may not be that much. I'm curious as to whether a radically different plenum shape will make more gains. After a considerable amount of internet searching, as far as I know no one has ever tried anything as strange as this before. So we'll see what happens...

Hey, what do you know. Someone did that design. Guess the old saying is true that there's nothing new under the sun. What car did that come off of?

Makes sense that it would be Toyota as it's similar to the Corolla manifold. Even the mandrel bent tubing looks familiar.

Just did a search on WIKI. That manifold design was on the last 4E FE 1.5 engine which was discontinued in 1997. In 1998 the Corolla 1ZZ FE 1.8 engine carried over the similar design.

It's at the welder today.
When that's done
it's ready to run.

Before dropping it off, I finished porting all of the runners and bead blasted the insides as it's the last time I'll be open to do anything to it.

For comparison, this is before porting...

I should have the tooter et up and running on the car by Friday.

Came up with another idea...

TOOTER II.VII

It's for a Toyota Tacoma 2.7 4 cylinder... a 2 inch thick intake manifold spacer that makes the runners 12% longer to lower the torque curve. The prototype should be done and ready for testing in a week. I'll drive it around to let the ECU learn the new operating parameters...

...and then it's off to Harry's Dyno Shop for a few runs.
