US sales comparison for June:

Corolla...26,458
Yaris...........747

Kinda crazy.

Doesn't mean the Corolla is better. It really just depends on individual wants and needs.

But clearly the vast majority of Americans naturally go with the bigger car.

One thing I don't think anyone has mentioned yet is moving the gauges away from the center. Some people disliked them in the center, but could it really have been that many? The standard Prius is still largely that way.

I would never have brought my Yaris if the gauges were still in the centre - I thought that looked so ugly - I love it that they are back where they ought to be on the new models.

cannot comment on Prius - only my daughter said to me if I brought a Prius she would get the bus home instead - LOL -
the Taxis here are all Prius.

This is what is so funny to hear...there were plenty of reasons to move the cluster over from directly in front of the driver. I LOVE having the cluster in the middle. It is a natural point of viewing especially since you end up looking in the middle for climate controls, audio controls, shifting, etc. The only thing that I can comment on when it comes to the new cluster is I think that it is more appealing looking for the LB. I feel that the first gens in the center console were horrendous looking. I love my S cluster.

Mad Dog, just because the looks might be a little more cookie cutter, the underpinnings are still the same solid bones.

...So kids not wanting to be seen in certain cars is not just a U.S. thing!

I like the center gauges, if for no other reason than it allows for the 3rd glove compartment in the dash in the Gen 2 Yaris. But of course, to each his/her own .

We also have 2001 Corolla Which weve owned since new which has taken a lot of abuse (two sons...) and still runs well. Very well. Japanese built.

Have also owned 3 Tundras in our family, and frankly NOT the same Toyota experience as we are used to. Built in....the US. Sad to say.
The days of Japanese built small cars sold in the US is soon coming to an end. They can't make money on them. Basically, you have Fit and Yaris left with maybe a couple other niche cars. The new Fit is said to be moving production to the west. The next Yaris is looking Mexican built. It's just economics.

The next Prius will move to conventional gauges behind the wheel (spy shots have been taken).

I read that it will be smaller (), 'based' on the Corolla, and will debut as a 2015 model.

There was some thought about eventually building the Prius at Toyota's Mississippi plant. Have you heard/read any recent news on this?

Most Dealers around here don't even have a single Yaris on the lot, that's what made it so hard for me to find one! I ended up buying mine from a friend who was switching to a Prius C, absolutely love my Yaris!! My Sister-In-Law just bought a '13 Corolla, but I bet if they'd still made the 4 door Yaris Sedan, she'd have gotten it instead.......

And that is the really funny thing there. I have always felt that the Yaris has more room inside to include the sedan over the modern Corollas.
