From what I understand from quite a few past posts, many people in Canada and in snowy northern parts of the U.S. have a 'winter beater car' for this time of year. The concept is unfamiliar to me as well. I've done a fair amount of traveling, but I've only once lived in a snowy area, Mammoth Lakes, CA. It was for one ski season, and I didn't drive around.
