OEM HID's

Just noticed this on one of the Thai accesory vendors websites and thought it might be of interest to the HID conversion guys...

402 Racing HID RS headlamp 43500.jpg

Apparently these are the real HID headlights that come on some Yaris models in Japan and Taiwan. If you look at the reflector design it's dramatically different to the stock Halogen housing..

For those who are interested, you might wanna consider doing a projector retrofit instead - the complete kit is selling for 43,500 Baht (~USD$1250), ouch!

HMMM. Thats the reflector I have on my 2007 Yaris TS. But i dont have HID's. Does that mean I only need to get the HID system and thats it? You sure is different? I need to find a pic now to compare it! but i looked at mine and it is the same!

ps. How do I post a pic of the TS so you can see?

Looks like it still has a portion of the housing as reflector type. I wonder if it is possible to just matte out some of the reflective quality in the headlight with a frosting type spray and not go the projector route??? Just a thought. I am holding out for after market to do HID conversion. Looks like it is Osram for me for a while.

Anybody got a pic of a standard USA headlight for side by side comparison?

on second thought some of the reflective part could possibly be cut away and fiberglass or what not added for a very fished neat look, I'm just not that talented

if you look carefuly, there are two bulbs in there, one behind the shhield, and one below for the high beams. Look at the design of the reflector as well, this one has two "cups" while the standard headlights only have one. Other than that, they're identical.

Is that a 194 wedge there on the bottom, the city light? Yes, I actually did notice the seperation of the two "reflective" sheild thingies. It would really take quite an artist but I think somone could pull this off quite well.

Probably not because the reflector has a completely different design. Unless you have access to some powerful software and the capability to manufacture reflectors, it's not a DIY project. It would be cheaper to buy them from Toyota of Thailand.

Projector retrofit would likely produce better results anyway.
