My best guess is that the heat shield around the exhaust manifold has rusted in one or several locations and is rattling. The easiest fix is just rip it off.

Have you heard what Iam describing only higher rpm?

If it is the shield which one.The one closer to the gas tank was resecured with self taping screws when I did Ebrake cable. You say manifold so it would be inside the engine compartment?

I do not think the sound is related to vibration. The higher rpm is not causing vibration/s

I will remove shield and see,but...

I got the loose shield off.Still tinkling metallic sound higher revs.Cant see anything else loose.

Could it just be the engine showing its age?

Its annoying whatever it is.I have heard identical sound on older beat up cars.

The noise is stil there.all shields removed even underneath car.

Had 2 mechanics go over exhaust while having other work done.

I do notice I only get the noise in really hot weather,

Not a peep all winter and cooler months.

do you get a manual trans? if yes then check the 2 shifter cables if they are rubbing against each other... i just had a hard 2 months figuring out mine and lamost ordered a clutch set as advised by 2 shop mechanics i went... with endless troubleshooting i even got 1 bolt off the exhaust damaged since i suspect the exhaust was making the sound.. when moving the engine while it is off, there is a slight sound too but that is near the exhaust and just the 2 shifter cables grinding each other... i could be wrong but it is worth a try if you have the stick shift. I placed a rubber cushion in between the metal guide and put a little grease and voila all the unusual metallic sound are gone.
