Water in the boot
Hello everyone,
I have seen some similar posts, but my case looks slightly different. This is why I am opening a new topic. I have a leak in my trunk. I found it out when Iooked under the boot floor cover - there was water in the spare tire bay and the left side of the floor mat was wet. I replaced the left taillight gasket. It does not leak that much now, but the problem persists. It does not leak from the under. There is a sunroof, but I do not think it leaks through there. It leaks only when I use a hose and spill the water on the hatch. The hatch has 2 metal sheets welded from inside - it somehow leaks through there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHLlXxZCwgg Any ideas? Change the taillight seal one more time? Thank you, Bart |

Could be from the glass, or the boot "door" seal? Not sure where you are hosing down from.

No different than the other 200 posts about leaks. Everybody's Yaris leaks. If you want a Yaris that doesn't leak buy a Fit. Welcome to the club.

Tail light gasket
The tail light gasket may have relaxed. Only two nuts on one side snug it down...it needs at least three. I nearly eliminated major leakage both sides just by cleaning up everything and re-using original gaskets (No sealant added, but I MIGHT have lightly greased them...which I'm not recommending)
Check the nuts. My sense is that it is better not to squeeze the crap out of a brand new gasket, but rather snug it down incrementally over time. |

Hi guys,
I have already removed the tail light, cleaned it and applied silicone on the original gasket. When I spill the water directly on the rear light it does not leak. It leaks when I spill the water above the rear light, at the top of the hatch. In your case, when the leak was from the tail light - where did the water come out? Was it clear the leak is from the lights? |

Yaris hatch leak tail light
There is a joint in the overlapping spot welded tin where the gutter dumps rearward (above the taillights). I also cleaned up that area when I did the taillight gasket...but didn't add caulk or anything up there. The gutters themselves are smooth and crack free.
I still get dripping from the hatch raised some time after a rain, as if water got into it...starting to wonder about small shields at hatch top corners trapping water and letting it into the hatch through the holes for the clips. |
