aFe vs Simota

I am looking for an inexpensive way to get some power and MPG
so far I am looking at the following

swiss cheese airbox + simota flter
- very cheap, decent gains
Simota SRI
- pretty cheap, better than airbox mod?
AFE intake
- is the heatshield worth the extra 50 bucks?

any opinions, ideas, rants...?

You answered your own question. Inexpensive...go the swiss cheese airbox route. I have the K&N instead of Simota filter.

I am really wanting to brainstorm/decide if each upgrade is worth the difference in price?

IMHO, I don't think so; perhaps more for visual appeal.
You want more performance for the money, go the NST lightweight/undersized crank pulleys. That is probably the biggest bang for your bucks....performance-wise.

Good luck.

also, what pulley should I start with?
I don't know if I could float the entire set at one time.

the 10% underdrive is the way to go. I believe they are showing 3-5 whp gains. It also have great reviews look at the thread for them.

i have both simota SRIs and a aFe intake. from personal experience, the simota carbon SRI is rated very high for looks, you may have to get a smaller battery to fit it, or a certain way...either way its pretty damn tight fit. and the power is pretty linear..actually i really never pushed the car with it on, cause i was still breaking the car in lol. the other simota inake looks nice and shiny, and you wont feel power until the higher rpms, and it feels great to have a slight kick at a certain rpm! It hits 115mph pretty easily once you get it up there. definately a sweetspot noticable. the AFE intake is very good for low to midrange rpm, i definately feel it kick pretty early on, but compared to the simota, the higher rpms is meh. it feels pretty sluggish going past 100, but the low end makes up for it. so its up to you. the price cant be beat for both of them. the AFE certainly feels more solid, and fits slightly better, and i see less water spots.. the simota is great for your buck, good looking, and unique.. the difference between the two is pretty noticable. i wanna do a dyno run soon and compare :(

Correct, the 10% Underdrive Crank Pulley is our MOST popular. Most people pick one up and come back a few months down the road to buy the rest.

Good luck and have fun with your project

Bang for buck i would think it is hard to go past the swiss cheese
option , but one thing is a certain if you are not running a 10% under drive pullie any gains will be very minimal.
I personally am running the AFE intake with the 10% under drive pullies
and the differance is quite amazing.
but at the end it all comes back to what you feel comfortable installing.

I have a mild sub amp.
not sure the amperage, but about 600 watts.

Would I have an issue with the under drive pulleys?
I would most likely have the local shop install them.

No NST has engineered their underdrive pully to effect the water pump and alt. as little as possible. You should be ok with that system
