Two More Doors..

Hello i own the 3 door hatch. (2009 model)

I was just wondering if its physically possible to get two extra doors added. Do you think toyota could do this? Would it be pricey if it was able to be done?

Going into the purchase of my yaris, all they had was the 3 door option for the hatch at the time, and i was told they wouldnt have any 5 door hatchs for at least 6 months. So i opted for the 3 door.

Is this all possible or am i just nuts for thinking this? :P

It was either a now or never kind of thing for me. I needed a car that week and the yaris was the only one i liked out of everything i looked at.

<EDIT>

. Also, the 2 doors are way larger in the 3-door version. I think it would be impossible to do this mod even if you had the cash.

Just trade your 3-door for a 5-door and call it a day.

Well, you'd be spending way less by trading it in for sure. Not to mention that your warranty would be intact.

it is possible... get 4 new doors, 2 new B-pillars, 2 new rear quarter panels.

Hmm.. might as well just buy a 2nd yaris though. :)

Errrr....wrong! The wheelbases on the 3- and 5-door LBs are the same (96.9"). It's the Yaris Sedan that rides on a longer version of the platform, with a 100.4" wheelbase. The sedan has an overall length of 169.3" compared to 150.6" for both of the Liftback models, and the Sedan is 2.5 inches lower than the Liftbacks as well.

I sat in an 09 5-door a few days ago and it is exactly the same dimensions inside as my 3-door 08 LB. And, as much as I thought I would like the 5-door better, I don't. The shorter doors make it harder to get in and out of the car, and the back seat can't take a 6' tall passenger (I am 6'2" and was rubbing the ceiling).

But I do like the split-folder rear seat and still want to get one for my 08. Otherwise, there isn't any difference between the two cars (3- and 5-door) other than the number of doors and their size...so the mod would be possible but I think it would be way too costly. Trading for a 5-door is a much better option...

Cheers! M2

Sorry if that's the case, but I've heard that sideskirts made for the 3-door will not fit the 5-door without modifications.

No sweat, I originally thought the same but it must be some kind of illusion as the 5-doors looked longer to me.

To the OP, I would recommend going to a dealer and checking out a 5-door before you decide on anything. Like I said, I thought that was what I wanted but I got an 08 3-door LB instead. I have since sat in a 5-door (the one with the $699 spoiler that I posted pics of in this thread) and to be honest, I am now happier that I got the 3-door!

The shorter doors didn't "do it" for me, and they didn't make it that much easier to get in the back. I only haul my kids back there if anybody, so the longer door works better.

By the way, I wouldn't spend a ton of money modding a car with a capability that I could buy. Maybe doors that slid up instead of opened outward, but once adding two more doors to a 3-door was done (if it could even be done), it would be no different than a 5-door you couldn've bought; so what's the point?

Cheers! M2
