installing Penguin Garage rear hub spacers! - Toyota Yaris Forums

DIY instructions for Penguin Garage rear Hub Spacers:

tools required:
~ your wheel removal tools
~ jack and jackstand
~ Hammer
~ small Flat headed screwdriver (ABS-Equipped only)
~ 14MM socket and extension
~ 10MM Allen key (socket preferred for torque wrench)
~ Torque wrench (not required, but recommended)

Step 1: support car with jacking device of your choice. Remove wheel

Step 2: remove rear drum. remember to NOT set your emergency brake! :) tapping with a hammer helps with the drum removal process

Step 3: locate the hub bolts. use a 14mm socket to remove these 4 bolts

Step 4: remove the rear hub/brake assembly. if you are ABS equipped, you'll need a small flat-head screw driver to release the wheel sensor plug before removal of the hub

use the supplied grease (clear baggie with red grease inside) to lightly coat the mounting surfaces of each spacer. doesn't have to be THICK, just enough to discourage corrosion.

Step 5: insert one supplied bolt thru the hub assembly and slip the spacer over the bolt. this will make re-aligning the hub easier when bolting the hub back to the axle. tighten the hub bolts in a diagonal pattern, torque the new bolts to 80 lb/ft (for those of you who are not torque wrench-equipped, TIGHT). reinstall brake drum, wheel, and set the car down. you're now Penguin Equipped!

wow, even easier than I thought - I was expecting to have to disconnect the brake line and bleed the brakes after.

no sir :) on the scion xD it may be recommended to loosen the e-brake cable bracket, but today i found that you don't need to with the yaris. just a little bit of elbow strength and you're back where you started, only wider.

fyi this was a 13mm spacer install :)

hah! yes it is! by the way i have the muffler delete pix on my memory card. pending a few quotes, i'm confident we can provide a product to penguin garage that they can sell

i've had hub spacers on my scion for 5 years. my review is that they're a necessary mod with no downsides whatsoever :)

so if i do 13mm.. can i still fit +40 with 195/50/16 on the back without rubbing even if its loaded..when loaded or just 2 people on back the tires gets tucked in the fenders.

I have a set as well I'm really glad we got them, i'm actually thinking of upgrading to the new 13mm's instead of my current 10mm's

I'd wait till Tamago comes back to confirm but according to my calcs, you'd be fine at 13mm. Although a 10mm would give you a little extra comfort room and still look great.

ok thanks..but would 3 mm make a big difference..seems so small of a difference though..

it wouldn't make a big difference, 3mm is a lot for looks though.

if you're worried about rubbing I'd do the 10mm, if you want the most aggressive look go with the 13mm.

are your wheels 7" wide?

added a blurb about grease. first sets of spacers DID NOT ship with grease as my supplier was on the lam. any water-repelling lubricant should work fine

Did my install today in about an hour.

Driver's side was easy, but passenger side was a little more of a pain. Drum did NOT want to come off.

Also, Tamago did you notice the tightness in the lower brake line when you didn the install on Enth's? My driver side was tight, but passenger side was damn near impossible to get the holes to line up because of how tight the brake line was, it had no more slack, lol.

Also, the ABS sensors wires were a pain in the ass.
