YAOBTD (yet another one bites the dust)

I totalled my '09 Carmine red hatchback tonight. A patch of black ice on a twisty mountain road caused me to fishtail & lose control before slamming into a guardrail and rolling over onto the drivers side.

About half an hour before the accident I pulled over and got pissed because I stepped in some gum and it was all over my floor mat. I guess I won't have to worry about that now!

On a side note......I did manage to go 502 miles on a single tank (drove from Jackson, WY to Denver, CO without stopping) which translated to 46.5 MPG.

I'll post pics as soon as I can.....the entire drivers side is trashed as well as the left front where I hit the guardrail. Funny thing is the drivers air bag did not deploy, but the side curtain ones did when I rolled.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

That sucks dude. I hate the surrealness of the gum incident too. I know of times like that, when you're suddenly like "Man, I wish I was worrying about 10 pieces of gum compared to this"

As I said in another thread it's a good sign when someone is posting about an accident so soon-hope you are fine.

Bummer about the car, but it's great that you're OK!

The air bag ECU is pretty smart.

Thanks guys.....I am fine, just bummed about the car. I like your acronym better 'yaris-me'....I should have thought of that one! :)

My only injury is a jammed ring finger on my right hand. I think it happened when I tried catching the case of bottled water I bought in Denver as it flew towards me when the car flipped on its side.

I hope I can get another identical Yaris!

black ice + mountain road = a very dangerous recipe.

Glad you're OK!

Some days it doesn't pay to get up in the morning.

Yep.....black ice and a twisty road does suck! :) I am glad I'm OK too, but I am still upset about the loss of my Yaris. It was just getting broken in!

The estimate was for $16,144! Would you believe that a new drivers seat w/airbag is $1800?? Crazy.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the damage.....enjoy!

Thanks. Now I have to decide if I get a new '10 Yaris now, or wait until winter's over first. I'm leaning towards waiting, but I need a car to get me through until then. I have some decisions to make in the next few days.
