HTC evo4G or Samsung Epic4g?

i've been waiting for the evo to come out for quite some time and in a month i'm due for a new phone. i'm so excited and anxious that i'm about to wet my pants...any way, i've been keeping up with the evo for about 5 months, checking stats and checking reviews and stuff...

now the Epic comes out and basically blows it out of the water...it's got all the same goodies with the exception of a 5mp camera instead of the 8mp camera...but it's got zoom and the evo doesnt. it's got and o-led display with multi touch sensitivity, evo doesnt...and it's got the thing in it to detect it's position on all axis. so, all the apps for the iphone and games and stuff will work on the samsung, not evo.

so, i doubt i'll ever use those apps often, and it's not basing my purchase on being able to use my phone as a level...but, it's still cool as hell.

any way, anyone with an evo wish they'd have waited?

Me! And I'll be saying this every 2 months when they come out with a new and improved one ;)

Seriously, I was looking at that phone as a very close 2d to the EVO, because of the KB, the screen and possibly a better battery life. But in the end i went with HTC.

The evo has better cameras. That's about it :P

OP. Ask yourself this question: what is more important to YOU?

Or first, you should try to figure out if the EVO is still available. Last I checked, it's completely sold out everywhere, so you may have to go on a wait list for a while. So that's the first thing you need to check out.

Then, if you're in no hurry, wait until the Samsung comes out and go make a side by side comparison at the store. That is the only way, really, to figure out which one you like best. Hold them, play with them. Reviews, other people, can only tell you so much. In the end you're going to make the decision based on what works for you, and it can be silly little stuff like "this one feels better in my hand" or "that one looks funky" or whatever.

I like websites like Phonedog.com , easy to understand, user-oriented info. If you are a techie, then you probably know where to go already for more advanced reviews ;)

PS. I've seen AT&T's Samsung and the screen is indeed, brilliant.

epic - touch screen/slider, vga camera on front, 5mp on the back.

pros of EVO: 8mp camera,
available HDMI cable for watching hi=def phone vids,
brick phone (does not slide open),

pros of EPIC: 3x zoom,
32g sd card from factory (evo only gets 8),
slider (but i dont like sliders...but it's the only slider other than android2 in it's class),
6 axis motion sensor for games similar to wii games,
hummingbird processor over dragonfly processor (same speeds though),
an extra 500mb of ROM,
bigger battery,
android 2.2 update soon after release,
some type of 'samsung only' entertainment store (probably similar to itunes or rhapsody...for movies, music and games),
also, has a wireless N built in and evo only has wireless b/g

so, i'll probably end up with the samsung and deal with the slider.

ahem.... *cough* not "brick" phone please , candy bar or tablet

Also, the EVO is getting FroYo, starting today actually. But yeah, the Samsung Epic sure looks better in paper. And having the slider KB can be a plus (if it's cold and you have gloves, if it's sunny and you can't see your virtual KB, for some games... ) I personally think it's a huge plus in some situation.

You should check and see how the super amoled display looks in sunlight. I know that was one thing I didn't like about the amoled display of my N1, you couldn't see the damn thing outside. but inside, man, what gorgeous screen resolution

One thing, though, people in the past have complained about the Samsung skins and the fact that the phones look a little cheaply made. Question of personal taste, no doubt (although the Samsung Moment did look "cheaper" than the equivalent HTC's at the time)

Personally, I can't wait to go play with one at the store. I think the new Samsung line of phones coming out right now on all carriers is awesome. .02c

lol...at least it's not a zack morris phone....lol...

i have a samsung instinct s30, and the one before that was the original instinct. and my only complaint on both these phones was the internet sucked. my original instinct i never used it, that's how bad it was. the s30 i use often, but it's difficult. so i'm hoping that they fixed the problems. i'll have to go play in the stores to find out more...maybe i'll check out the other samsung galaxy phones on the market today to see if i'll like the epic.

Do you mind posting some of your links to the best comparison reviews you found out there? I have a friend who's asking himself the same question (Evo v. Epic) and truthfully, I'm too lazy to do the research.

IMO, he'd be fine with either phone, aalthough having a physical KB is always a plus IMO but it's not my decision

I saw that the Epic's display is amoled, not super-amoled, so yeah, having the KB will help when you're outside in the sun (which, in California, is pretty much 10 out 12 months :)
