Went to my car at lunch to find a ticket on my windshield.

No front license plate fine $93.00. On the same street there were 3 other cars that did not have plates in the front as well. However i was the only one ticketed. Honestly cops have nothing else better to do but drive around and look for cars without front plates to fine to make more money for the city.

Ive been driving for 10 years and never had a front license plate and never have got a ticket before. Thing now is i have to drill holes in my bumper and ive already had them shaved and painted.

You could always buy the tow hook license plate holder if you really dont want to drill holes. I know MicroImage sells them.

Mount it below the bumper on the hideaway plates or behind the lower grilles if you must avoid drilling holes. I didn't have a front plate and the shop drilled the holes in the new front bumper when I had to have it replaced after a fender bender. Now I have a plate from college up front just to have the holes filled. Yes, I liked it better without, but it's not the end of the world.

California requires front plates however, so you were chancing fate by not having one for so long and it caught up with you. Not really anybody's fault but your own if it's state laws.

Options:
1. Move
2. Get front plate.
3. Don't get front plate. Get 2nd ticket.

Good day!

I hate front plates but it's the law in Texas so I have one. And as someone who would love to NOT have one, but does anyway, it's nice to hear about someone actually getting ticketed for something that is pretty rampant. Is it a stupid law? I think it is. But I follow it nonetheless cause it's not that hard to just have a front plate. Needless to say I've never gotten a ticket for that. hmm.

Yeah, I didn't exactly enjoy drilling holes in the front bumper of my brand new Yaris; but the law's the law! Having lived in Europe a lot, front tags are the norm and there are numerous reasons for them; and once it's on you really don't notice it. But if you live in a state that requires them, you can expect the cops to be on the lookout for vehicles that don't have them mounted.

However, Texas has some loophole that allows the plate to be put in the front windshield; which is ridiculous. It cannot be viewed like that and I believe the legislature here is working to make it a requirement to have it permanently mounted.

Bottom line: if you gotta have it, then have it!

Cheers! M2

i HATEEEEEEEEEEE front license plates and it's required by law to have one here; but I don't do it. I haven't gotten ticketed for it yet; even when I have gotten a speeding ticket.

Front plates are not required here in GA, and I've often wondered how much money some states spend making two plates for each car, in states that do require it. Seems like a waste of money, especially considering that cops probably almost always look at the plate on the back of the car anyway...

Yeah that front windshield thing is just plain silly. I was wondering if that were legal. I see it a lot. Thought about doing that but if I gotta keep it clipped to a visor or something like that so it can kinda be seen from the outside then I'd rather just slap it on the front and be done with it.

California is broke and they're looking to fill their coffers right now, so consider yourself lucky you got away with it for so long, and get a front plate like everybody else. it's no big deal, really.

Tickets totally suck but after 10 years, consider that the price to pay for not having front plates ($9.00 per year, not so bad.)

thats like over here in long island, suffolk county they just installed red light cameras allll over the place ive already seen so many ppl get flashed, it takes something like 5 pictures front and back of your car and takes a 20 second video, sends you the link to the video after u receive the letter in the mail and all the proof, either fight it and risk getting 2 poitns on your license or just pay the 50 dollars with no points.

To be honest, we no longer live in a world of justice. I've gotten tagged quite a few times in the past for the same damn thing for no reason. Best to just accept it and realize we're headed down a Gestapo way of life. There's no justice for the working man, so all we can do is just try to play by the rules while resisting putting a bullet in every cops' head (who should be reminded that their salary is paid by our hard-earned tax dollar). That's democracy for ya...

here in ontario (and i believe most of canada....except Quebec for some strange reason) front plates are mandatory and putting them in ur windsheild is illegal.

i covered my holes up with 2 screws and painted them same colour as the car and i mounted my plates on the lower half of my bottom grill with zip ties.

Let's break this down shall we......

1) "To be honest, we no longer live in a world of justice."

Last time I checked, we do. Last time I checked my paycheck, we do. Last time I put a person in jail for committing a crime, we do. I'm pretty sure it's been working well for us the last 300 plus years. Is it perfect? No (I will get to that in a minute). But it sure is nice to wake up each day and not be surrounded by a wall isn't it?

2) "I've gotten tagged quite a few times in the past for the same damn thing for no reason. Best to just accept it and realize we're headed down a Gestapo way of life.

Think before you say something is my suggestion. Gestapo's were organizations within the Nazi regiments to enforce their beliefs on others and punished those who didn't follow that belief. Sound familiar? Well it should, it's called Terrorism. If you think this country employ's a secret police organization to implement terrorist acts against the people of THIS Republic to follow a belief, you are sorely mistaken.

3) "There's no justice for the working man, so all we can do is just try to play by the rules while resisting putting a bullet in every cops' head (who should be reminded that their salary is paid by our hard-earned tax dollar)."

Play by the rules. You said it yourself. Ahhh, the ol' "Bullet to the head of a cop". A perception of a threat followed by a statement of sheer lack of knowledge. Every "citizen" has the right to vote. I'm not going to sit here and recite the law books on how laws are created, BUT, I suggest you do, and start with googling "How someone is elected into office". Each and every single day, laws are amended, fixed, changed, voted on etc. Laws for crimes, housing, taxes, tickets, unions, corporations, and the list goes on. Who "votes" these laws into effect? The people we elect. If someone can't vote because of their status, I urge them to do what they can to help change that IF they want to expect change to happen.

Someone mentioned earlier that California is broke. That is a correct statement or damn near close enough. 2006, the city of Los Angles implemented several programs to crack down on non front license plates. Yes, it generates an enormous amount of money to the state. Back track it again to where the problem lies. State laws are generated and created where..........????

I'd suggest you do something about it if you don't like it, otherwise research before you speak if you have questions. I'm no expert on the subject, I only play one when I'm in court

^Okay fair enough

Still an annoying law though. If the city is constantly short on funds their politicians should agree to pay-cuts, with the City Of Bell leading as example (in case you didn't read-up on it yet, they finally got busted big-time this year for paying their fat-cats outrageous salaries at the cost of their citizens' tax-dollars). But anyways, I'm not trying turn this into a political thread. To each it's own.
