Bury a key in the dash

Hi all...I just installed a remote starter...but since I have an immobilizer...I must install a bypass module or I can bury a key in the dash...

A friend of mine gave the remote starter to me...and I dont want to spend money for the bypass so It would be all FREE

And I don't really know where to put the key in the dash so the immobilizer see the key....

Can someone help me ? :)

In the days before bypass modules, people bought the little boxes that had a coil around the key inside. That allowed you to bury the "key in the box" deep in the dash. If you want to skip the bypass module, you will need to put the key very close to the coil, which surrounds the ignition switch, which probably means right under the steering column cover, taped to the ignition switch assembly. If you are going to do this, you may want to cut the key portion off of the head, and just put the head in there, so the steering column can not be unlocked with it.

That's a really good idea. And as usual CTScott has the answer. I have 3 keys for my car, 2 normal (black head with remote buttons) and a Valet Key (grey plastic head - non remote). Can the Valet key be used to trick the immobilizer to avoid butchering a normal key, or would I have to use one of the normal keys?

Valet would be fine.

we usually use a corresponding key but leave it blank as there is no need to cut it. a/v guy just programs and hides away....
