Ken Block has no real talent, except for production skills to fix his fuckups.

I get racing...whether track motorcycles, F1, supermotard, rally, ice rally, autocross and precision TT.
Myself, I race 125cc 2-stroke motorcycles on track and consider myself excellent,
and continually studying technique and control...and in my case different reeds, jets, pistons,
tires, clutches, suspension setups...all that...

But I simply do not get drifting. there is a lot of money in and around drifting
but for the life of me it seems pointless. I only admire those who chose to
find the -fastest- way around a track, not the slower 'stylistic' method of drift.

I don't intend to slam it, but what the hell am I missing ? It seems like pointless
noise and smoke. Is the idea to see how fast you can go while also having the
arse end out in comical fashion ? It definitely isn't a fast way around a track...much
slower than maintaining grip...I just do not get it.

Drifting is like ballet. Its only won by judges.

It does take a certain skill to make it look good.

But I am with you on it. Its a pointless tire eating sport, if you wanna call it that.

But I do respect those who do it right. There is a finesse and skill that it involves.

In the early days of Japanese mountain racing, drifting in minimal angles actually was a method of cornering faster than in grip runs (kinda like this). It'd be more interesting to watch if it could remain in practice at the track today in pro events IMO, so I get what you're saying. It's definitely over-hyped as a competitive sport, but like a car wreck you can't help but to watch anyway.

Drifting is a pointless sport. (if you really can call it a sport)
REAL Drifting is called SPRINT CARS (Fricken BadAss Racing!!!)
Sprint Cars are forced to slide because they go FAST!!
OH! & the main event usually has at least 40 cars at a time.
Not only 2 cars at the most, like drifting.
I go to Irwindale Raceway here in SoCal to watch Sprint Cars and before
the main event one night they had many of the top drifting drivers from the
US & Japan to entertain the crowd. After about 10 minutes of their exhibition,
they were BOOOOD off the track. After the last car exited the track and the
Sprint Cars came on the back straight away the crowd stood up and cheered!!
Everybody shaking their heads saying WTF was that???
Drifting is LAME!! I dont get it either.

Drifting is for people who also need to turn right every once in a while.

not sure if you were bashing me or not with the

But I completly agree with this post. But "Drifting" is the name of what the OP is showing. Sprint Cars "drift" also, but in a form of racing.

The objective of this drifting that has become so popular is to stay as close to the car in front of you and keep your car sideways with your rear end as far out as possible as much as (if not more than) the car in front of you. They will consistantly go head to head taking turns being in front until either the gap opens between car 1 & 2, therefore 2nd car loses. OR, 2nd car passes the 1st car however it may occur (skill, spinout, car malfunction).
Sprint Cars are by far faster while "drifting". I dont know much about the cars themselves, but I watched them on TV. I am personally not a fan of Oval Tracks in any form like Vten.. I like circuit races more.

as the saying goes: To each thier own

bottom line: Its entertainment.

^YES !^

Sprint or Outlaw cars do not drift. They powerslide. not to be confused with drifting, though
they may appear to be the same thing, it is much different.
